Hair Science behind hair loss as well hair growth is not as simple as it looks....
So let us try to understand a bit

➡️A middle-aged woman wakes up each morning noticing a few more coarse hairs on her face. At first, she ignores them. Then comes threading. Later, waxing. The cycle repeats every few weeks. The hair seems to grow faster, thicker, and more stubborn. This is often like treating malaria fever with Crocin — the symptom is managed, but the cause remains.

🔊Facial hair growth in women, especially when progressive, deserves medical evaluation. A dermatologist looks beyond the surface. We assess for hormonal causes such as PCOS, thyroid imbalance, insulin resistance, or rarely adrenal disorders. When required, patients may be advised consultation with a gynecologist and an ultrasound pelvis to evaluate ovarian morphology.

🌐Once the root cause is identified, treatment becomes targeted. Managing the underlying hormonal imbalance slows further stimulation of hair follicles. Alongside this, laser hair reduction offers a long-term solution by selectively targeting active follicles, reducing density and thickness over time.

💁The key message is simple: repeated parlour visits provide temporary relief, but proper evaluation offers lasting improvement. Early medical guidance not only improves cosmetic concerns but also detects hidden metabolic or hormonal issues that may impact overall health.

💡Choose assessment over assumption. Choose science over shortcuts. ✨

A COMMON PROBLEM BUT LEAST UNDERSTOOD!!

WHY WE NEED TO SHAVE THE AREA BEFORE LASER HAIR REDUCTION !!

➡️Laser hair reduction works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in hair follicles. The laser emits a specific wavelength that is absorbed by the hair shaft and converted into heat, which damages the follicle and delays future growth.

⭐️This process is based on selective photothermolysis—where laser energy selectively destroys the pigmented hair follicle while sparing the surrounding skin.

🔊We advise trimming or shaving before laser because it leaves the hair root intact under the skin while removing surface hair. This allows maximum energy to reach the follicle rather than getting wasted on burning long hair above the skin.

💁 In contrast, waxing or plucking removes the hair root, leaving no target for the laser, making the session ineffective. Hence, shaving is recommended and waxing should be avoided during the treatment course for optimal results and long-term hair reduction.

➡️At first glance, many skin conditions look strikingly similar. A red bump could be Common Acne, Folliculitis, or even Miliaria (Heat Rash). A scaly patch might be Tinea Corporis (Ringworm) or Pityriasis Rosea. To the untrained eye, these nuances are easily missed, yet the treatments for each are worlds apart.

💁This is precisely what makes a Dermatologist indispensable. Precision in diagnosis is the bridge between persistent irritation and clear, healthy skin.

🌐At Maple Clinic, we don’t just look; we see. Our lead Dermatologist brings over 25 years of clinical excellence to every consultation.
🎖As an esteemed alumnus of IMS BHU and AIIMS New Delhi, their expertise is rooted in the highest standards of medical training. Whether it’s distinguishing Shingles from Poison Ivy or Rosacea from a Sunburn, we provide the accuracy your skin deserves.
Don’t guess with your skin.

🦠Molluscum contagiosum in children is a very common viral skin infection, often seen as small, shiny, dome-shaped bumps with a central depression. ⭐Diagnosing it is usually not difficult, but the real problem is delay in proper treatment. Many parents keep applying antibiotic creams, antifungal ointments, or continue homeopathic medications, which unfortunately do not treat the virus effectively.

👉As time passes, the lesions often spread rapidly due to scratching, skin-to-skin contact, or sharing towels and clothes. By the time the child finally reaches a dermatologist, the condition may be widespread, making treatment more challenging, time-consuming, and expensive.

🥇Early diagnosis and timely intervention help prevent spread, reduce discomfort, and avoid transmission to siblings or classmates. In most cases, radiofrequency ablation works very well and gives excellent results when done at the right time.

➡️Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP) is a chronic variant of Lichen Planus, presenting as dark brown to greyish pigmentation over sun-exposed and flexural areas. 🔆It is more common in Indian skin types and often confused with melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The exact cause is unclear, but immune-mediated damage to basal keratinocytes leads to pigment incontinence.

🔊A skin biopsy is crucial for accurate diagnosis. It reveals interface dermatitis, basal cell degeneration, and melanophages in the dermis—helping differentiate LPP from other pigmentary disorders, ensuring correct management.

🏥Treatment focuses on halting progression and reducing pigmentation. It includes topical calcineurin inhibitors, mild steroids, strict photoprotection, and oral antioxidants. In resistant cases, low-dose oral medications and laser therapies may help, but results are gradual.

🌐Early diagnosis and guided therapy are key to preventing progression and achieving optimal outcomes.

➡️Copper door handles are more than just elegant—they’re scientifically protective. Copper possesses natural antimicrobial properties that actively kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact.

🔊 This is due to copper ions disrupting microbial cell membranes and genetic material, preventing survival and spread. In high-touch areas like door handles, this reduces transmission of infections within homes.

💡Unlike coated surfaces, copper works continuously without external agents, making it a passive yet powerful hygiene tool. Integrating copper fittings is a simple, evidence-based step toward safer living spaces for families.

➡️Hirsutism is excessive terminal hair growth in women in androgen-dependent areas like face, chest, and abdomen. The most common cause is 👩‍🍳Polycystic O***y Syndrome, but it can also result from hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, certain medications, or rarely adrenal disorders.

🏥At Maple, we follow a holistic approach. Our Gynaecologist evaluates for 💫PCOS, menstrual irregularities, and metabolic factors, ensuring the root cause is identified and corrected. Simultaneously, our Dermatologist addresses the cosmetic concern with advanced 🎖laser hair reduction, offering safe and long-term improvement.

💁It is crucial to understand that laser alone is not enough. Without correcting the underlying hormonal imbalance, hair regrowth can persist. Hence, treating the cause and managing lifestyle factors like weight, diet, and insulin resistance is equally important.

🔆This integrated approach ensures better, sustainable outcomes for our patients.

🪨Renal stones (Kidney Stones) can often be prevented with simple lifestyle changes. Stay well hydrated—aim for 2.5–3 liters of water daily. Include a balanced diet with normal calcium intake (milk, curd), fresh fruits, and vegetables.

👉Limit salt, as excess sodium increases stone risk. Reduce oxalate-rich foods like spinach, nuts, and tea, especially in recurrent cases. Avoid excessive animal protein and processed foods. 🍋‍🟩Citrus fruits like lemon help by increasing urinary citrate. Maintain a healthy weight and avoid dehydration, especially in hot climates.
