Why crowns are placed after Root canal treatment (RCT)-
Root canals save teeth from decay but also weaken them.When the pulp(nerve)inside the tooth is infected due to deep cavity or injury, dentists remove the pulp and replace it with filling.This is called RCT.When the tooth is having cavity already and dentist drills it during RCT,the teeth becomes weak.The tooth has no nerve supply now and thus becomes brittle and prone to fracture.Thus crown is fixed over tooth to protect them from fracture and restore the natural appearance of tooth.For anterior teeth if tooth structure is healthy then we can avoid crown because anteriors are not involved in chewing.
