I am Dr. Vaibhav Nasre, Director of United Hospital.
Today, I want to share a message through a recent case that I operated on, because this is a very common scenario and important for everyone to understand.
Many patients in our Indian population who have blood pressure, diabetes, have undergone angioplasty, or have had a paralysis attack are on blood thinning medicines such as ecosprin and clopidogrel.
When you are taking blood thinners, it is very important to take extra care of your body. Even a small injury to the head can increase the risk of bleeding inside the brain, known as subdural bleed. This bleeding can happen suddenly in the acute stage or can also develop slowly after two to three months in the chronic stage.
Recently, we operated on a patient who had undergone angioplasty three months earlier. After a minor injury, the patient developed brain bleeding and required emergency surgery. The bleeding was removed, the patient was kept on a ventilator post surgery, and is now conscious and responding well.
If you are on blood thinning medication and experience loss of consciousness, dizziness, imbalance, or fainting, you can come to us immediately. We are available for emergency care 24 hours.
