AMU’s Dawakhana Tibbiya College Marks 75 Years with Platinum Jubilee-cum-Dealers Meet; Vice Chancellor Launches New Initiatives

ALIGARH, November 22: Dawakhana Tibbiya College (DTC), Aligarh Muslim University, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee with a special Platinum Jubilee-cum-Dealers Meet, marking 75 years of service to Unani medicine. Established in 1950 as a small dispensary under Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College (AKTC), DTC today stands as one of India’s most trusted Unani pharmaceutical institutions.

The programme was presided over by AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, who served as the Chief Patron and formally launched three major initiatives commemorating the milestone. These include the new 75-year completion logo, a fully revamped official DTC website, and Sharbat DilZeal, a ready-to-drink herbal energy beverage suitable for all age groups.

In her presidential address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon congratulated the DTC team for upholding excellence over decades and expressed confidence that the Dawakhana is poised for global outreach, supported by modernisation efforts and renewed focus on innovation.

Chief Guest, former Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, lauded the Dawakhana’s historic stature within AMU and urged expansion through research-driven innovation. He expressed confidence that by India’s centenary of Independence, DTC’s medicines would find a place in international markets.

Offering institutional perspective, AMU Registrar and Occupier of DTC, Prof. Aasim Zafar, described the 75-year milestone as an extraordinary achievement, applauding DTC’s continued commitment to quality control and public service.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Saiyad Shah Alam from NIUM Bangalore, praised DTC as a custodian of Unani heritage, built on trust and authenticity, and stressed the need for Unani medicine to be made more accessible and affordable for the wider public.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Gulshan Wadhwa, Advisor and Scientist-G (Retd.), DBT, highlighted the Dawakhana’s adherence to policy, consistency in quality, and its unique achievement of nationwide brand recognition despite minimal advertising.

Reflecting on DTC’s legacy, Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, commended its 75-year contribution and emphasised that the next phase would include dedicated research and development initiatives to enhance the scientific base of Unani medicine.

Earlier, Prof. Riaz Ahmad, Member In-Charge, welcomed the dignitaries and outlined the Dawakhana’s historic journey from a modest dispensary to a nationally recognised manufacturer of quality Unani formulations. Prof. Badruddujja Khan, Principal, AKTC, appreciated DTC’s foundational role in preserving and promoting traditional Unani practices, noting that it remains one of the earliest units of the AKTC system.

Mr. Mohd. Shariq Azam, General Manager, DTC, proposed the vote of thanks while Ms. Yasha Taimoori and Mr. Ayman Hafeez Khan conducted the programme. A teaser made by Mr. Mohd Saquib and Mr. Shariq was also launched by the guests.
