Sprain or strain - A conditions when fibrous tissues connecting bones to bones or muscles to bones stretched or teared like sprained ankle,knees,sprained thumb or wrist .
Diffrence between strain & sprains are when injury occurs in muscles or tendons joined to bones are called strain & when injury occurs in ligaments joined bone to bone are called sprains
Sprain usually occurs when we overextended or over stretched resulting complete or partial y tear a ligaments
There are three grades of tearing or sprains
Mild(grade 1) when ligaments are slightly stretched or very small teared
Moderate (grade 2) when ligament is torn but not complete
Severe (grade 3) when ligament is completely torn
Symptoms like pain,swelling,tenderness,limited or unable to move, muscle spasm, weakness etc usually sprain or strains treated by self-care cold compress applying RICE procedures
R-rest,I- ice massage , compression or taping,elevation of the limb or part
Medications like NSAID'S anti inflammatory or muscle relaxants devices used like braces immobilizer's,splint or casts.
Therapies stretching massage physiotherapy treatment like ultrasond therapy & TENS for pain .rare but occasionally in some grade 3 cases where ligaments are completely torn ligaments can be repaired through surgeries
