📍 Thimphu, Bhutan | 25 July 2025

QAI successfully organised a first-of-its-kind, one-day awareness seminar on quality and accreditation in Bhutan.
The event brought together 50 participants from testing labs, calibration labs, medical laboratories and hospitals (both human and veterinary) representing the government and private sectors.
Our CEO Dr. BK Rana, opened the seminar with a comprehensive briefing session, providing an overview on:
International system of conformity assessment
Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA)
ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189
QAI accreditation framework for healthcare and veterinary facilities

We were privileged to have speakers from the Metrology Division of Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB) and Bhutan Agriculture & Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), who highlighted their valuable experiences with accreditation in Bhutan.

🎖️ The seminar was graced by Col. Chimi, Head of the Bhutan Forensic Science Laboratory and Senior Superintendent, Royal Bhutan Police, as Chief Guest. His full-day participation reflected strong commitment toward quality systems and accreditation in the country.

Our CEO, Dr. BK Rana, had an engaging and productive conversation with Dasho Pema Wangchuk, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Royal Government of Bhutan, discussing various aspects of quality and accreditation in Bhutan’s healthcare ecosystem.
Dr. BK Rana also briefed Dasho about the upcoming awareness seminar – the first of its kind in Bhutan – being hosted by QAI.
A special moment during the meeting was Dasho Pema Wangchuk's warm acknowledgment of Dr. BK Rana past contributions as an ADB Consultant in 2019, especially in developing the Bhutan Standards for Quality Assurance in Health, which were later adopted by the Bhutan Standards Bureau as National Standards.
We are honored to support Bhutan in its journey toward excellence in healthcare quality and patient safety.
