ADVICE FOR MAINTAINING HEALTH IN 2ND INNING FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
(1) Please provide your bathroom floor with an anti slippery plastic met/a water cleaning wiper/ supporting handle / bars fitted in side walls /a small stool/ proper lighting & try to keep bathroom dry when not in use, put a soaking mattress out side BR , never shut the BR door from inside. Avoid standing on stool to carry out a domestic task. Accidental SLIP+FALL in bathroom + toilet is quite common with senior citizens, often leads to a major trauma, most commonly bone fractures, IT must/should be prevented at any cost.
(2) While on daily walk, wear proper sport shoes /loose comfortable dress , designed for walking, carry a small tourch (in evening hours), always carry your mobile phone, take enough water or liquid before you start, better have a walking partner for company.
(3) Limit your tv & mobile screen time (prime source of negativity) rather develop any other enjoyable hobby - learn music read quality books, activities like gardening, bird feeding is highly recommended.
(4) Never ever confine yourself at home all the day (unless serious sickness demands), go out often, sit in a park with friends or just stroll around your home/residence
(5) Hold hand rails, side-support while climbing stairs as a rule, thsi ensure that stairs passage should be well lit.
(6) Avoid two wheeler drive, better use a small car if possible, for those who are fond of driving.
(7) See your family doctor even for a trivial/minor complaint you ever notice, it might be a clue to any major ailment.
(8) For a better quality of life join any senior citizen's social group, which organises nature walks, bird watching, laughter club, spritual talks, or runs hobby club ect. Please join any one activity of your choice - purpose in keep your self busy.
(9) Make a circle of 4 - 5 close friends and try to meet them 2- to -3 times a week, either in nearby park, or at somebody's house or in restaurant. Share/laugh/gossip freely on light snack/cofee or any other beverage of your choice.
(10) Drink at least 2.5 lit water/ liquid per day.
(11) Diet is key to sound health, your daily diet should be well balanced, containing enough protein/ carbohydrate/ fat/ vitamins/ minirals. Seek an expert dietician's advise for any doubt . One or two seasonal fruits+little dry fruits to be consumed daily & make sure to add plenty of green salads in your diet.
(12) Regular walk, yoga, cycling, swimming or any other physical exercise of 30 minutes minimum should be part of daily routine, sitting ideal on sofa for long hours or extra sleep is unhealthy. Be mobile as much body allows, take your medication/ food on time, ensure you get six hours sound sleep. Regular pooja session/meditation/dhyana kind of practices help in narturing, worryless, calm & tranquil mood.
(13) Try to travel/visit new destinations- every six months, better with like minded group or with family members .
(14) Never stop learning new things, solve puzzles/ riddles/ play mind game "chess", reading , writing , teaching children. These activities helps in keeping our brain active and mind sharp, make new friends and interact on different subjects.(avoid self created loneliness).
