In this video, Dr. Akhil Pokala, Consultant Neurologist, explains about seizures (fits), also known as epilepsy, and what you should do when someone experiences one.
Seizures may look scary, but staying calm and taking the right steps is very important.
During a seizure, a person may have:
* Eye rolling
* Body stiffness or jerking movements
* Tongue biting
* Frothing from the mouth
* Loss of consciousness
* Passing urine or motion
👉 What should you do?
✔ Stay calm
✔ Move the person to a safe place
✔ Gently lay them on their side
❌ Don’t hold them tightly
❌ Don’t try to stop their movements
❌ Don’t put anything in their mouth or hands (like cloth, keys, or any objects)
⏱ Most seizures stop on their own within 1–2 minutes.
🚨 When to go to hospital?
* If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes
* If seizures happen repeatedly without recovery
💊 Good news: With proper treatment, many people with epilepsy can control seizures and live normal lives.
👉 Don’t fear seizures—get the right guidance from a neurologist.
