Keyhole surgery for recurrent shoulder dislocation.

In shoulder dislocation, labrum that covers the glenoid bone detaches from glenoid bone leading to instability of shoulder. This pathology is called Bankart lesion.

So to prevent recurrent dislocation of the shoulder we need to reattach the labrum to the glenoid bone with the help of bone anchors. This procedure is called Bankart repair.

This major procedure can be done by a key hole surgery called Arthroscopy.

Advantages of key hole surgery are - minimal scar, less blood loss and early recovery.

LABRUM

Labrum is a very important structure that surrounds the glenoid bone which keeps the head of the humerus bone ( bone of the arm) inside the shoulder joint.

Usually in case of shoulder dislocation, ( head of humerus comes out of shoulder joint ) the labrum gets detached from the glenoid bone.

If this labrum tear does not heal, it leads to recurrent dislocations of shoulder.

To prevent dislocation of shoulder, labrum needs to be reattached to the glenoid bone with the help of bone anchors.

This procedure can be done by a key hole procedure called arthroscopy.
