In this video, Dr. Chaitanya Ghanta, experienced orthopedic surgeon, explains whether knee replacement surgery can be performed on both knees at the same time.
It depends on the overall health condition of the patient, including sugar levels, blood pressure, thyroid function, and most importantly, heart fitness.
πΉ When Both Knees Can Be Operated Together:
β’ All vital parameters (sugar, BP, thyroid) are normal
β’ Cardiac condition is stable after evaluation
β’ Anesthetist confirms the patient is fit for surgery
β’ No major complications or risk factors are present
πΈ If Not Fit for Both at Once:
β’ One knee is operated first, and the second is done after 3 days
β’ In mild-risk patients, second knee surgery may be done after 1β2 months
β
The final decision is made by a dedicated medical team, which includes the orthopedic surgeon, anesthetist, and cardiologist β all working together to ensure the patientβs safety and best outcome.
