Heart attack and gas pain can feel very similar, which makes it difficult to understand what your body is trying to signal. Knowing the difference is important because quick action can save lives.
Gas pain usually affects the upper abdomen or lower chest, while heart attack pain is often felt in the center of the chest and may spread to the jaw or left arm. Symptoms like sweating, dizziness, heaviness, and restlessness are strong indicators of a possible heart attack.
Heart attack pain is typically burning, squeezing, tight, or heavy, whereas gas pain is usually sharp and often related to food intake, especially after meals. Pain that occurs after physical activity or emotional stress is more likely to be heart-related.
Heart attack risk increases with smoking, high BP, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Gas pain is commonly linked to carbonated drinks, spicy foods, indigestion, acidity, bloating, or overeating.
Since both pains can feel similar, the safest and fastest way to identify the cause is to get an ECG immediately.
