This is in the continuation of the previous post where we are discussing about basic questions of my patients -
So second major question- What is an irregular period and possible causes of irregular period?
An irregular period -
• Periods that occur less than 21 days or more than 35 days apart.
• Not having a period for three months (or 90 days).
• Menstrual flow that’s much heavier or lighter than usual.
• Period bleeding that lasts longer than seven days.
• Periods that are accompanied by severe pain, cramping, nausea or vomiting.
• Bleeding or spotting that happens between periods.

Causes:
There are many reasons why you could be having irregular periods, such as:
•.
• Puberty. It can take several years after puberty to develop regular menstrual pattern. Irregular periods are quite common.
• Change in contraception. If you have changed from one hormonal birth control to another, or have changed from a non-hormonal birth control method to a hormonal one, your menstrual cycle may be affected.
• Choice of contraceptive. Birth control pills and hormonal birth control methods can alter your hormones levels. Your body may need time to adjust to the new hormones, or prepare to stop your periods. Bleeding can become more erratic, lighter, or heavier depending on the contraceptive.
• Lifestyle. A poor diet, stress, heavy exercise, and an extreme change in weight can alter your hormone levels and cause irregular bleeding.
• Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). A woman suffering from PCOS may find that ovulation doesn't usually take place, so bleeding can become irregular or stop completely.
• Gynecological problems. Unexpected pregnancy, early miscarriage, and problems with the womb all can cause irregular periods.
• Thyroid disorders. Irregular bleeding could be a sign of an imbalance in your thyroid hormone.
• Cancer. Heavy bleeding between periods can be a symptom of cervical cancer, but this is extremely rare.

Normal Period, How long does a normal period last? Abnormal period, regular period, Irregular period? Symptoms of getting period are some basic questions came from most of the followers -

In this post I will be answering about length of the period (bleed) -

As discussed in previous posts about period, Please read if you missed that.

in period (bleeding) your body discards the monthly buildup of the lining of your uterus (womb).

How long does a normal period last? – Most people have their period (bleed) for between three and seven days.

Is a three-day period normal? - A period is normal if it’s anywhere between three and seven days. While on the shorter end of the range, some people have a menstrual period for three days. This is OK.

This is in the continuation of the previous post where we discussed first part of menstrual cycle which is Ovulation (release of egg from O***y). In this post we will discuss about second part of menstrual cycle. i.e. Menstruation (Month period or Bleeding).
Menstruation - Every couple and especially women should have a basic understanding of the menstrual cycle and fertility period.
Menstruation is the cyclic process in which the endometrium of the uterus is shed from the body during the first several days of the menstrual cycle; also called monthly period. Every month, your body prepares for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus, or womb, sheds its lining.
