Fortunate to make a difference in the life of these little ones from Jammu, born with congenital heart disease (CHD)- the most common birth defect worldwide including India. Usually Tetralogy of Fallot is detected and treated within 6 months to 1 year of life but due to limited access to healthcare and financial constraints, these children unfortunately lived with low oxygen levels in blood (blue baby) from birth till 4-5 years of age, thus affecting their growth and development. First seen in monthly pediatric cardiology OPD in Artemis Cardiac Care ASCOMS Jammu, these children got operated successfully in Artemis hospital Gurgaon by chief pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr Aseem R Srivastava. Nearly 80 percent of the treatment package was covered by the hospital through NGOs, thus providing financial relief to parents. Grateful to Artemis CTVS PICU team led by pediatric intensivist Dr Shubhra Gupta. These kids have been discharged and they are back to their hometown smiling along with much relieved parents.

Honoured to present a talk on "Timing of Intervention in Congenital Heart Disease (CHD)" in the “Cardiology CME” organised by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana, Punjab. CHD is the #1 birth defect worldwide including India. Every year, nearly 250,000 children are born with CHD in India, posing a great challenge to society and the health care system. In fact, nearly 10 percent of infant mortality is attributed to CHD in India. The focus of presentation was to sensitise and spread awareness among the health care professionals on CHD burden and optimal timing of intervention. Screening, Early diagnosis and timely Treatment in CHD increases the chances of survival to adulthood to more than 90 percent with good long -term outcomes. With advances in pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiac surgery, even the most complex CHD can now either be completely repaired or reduced significantly to a less severe degree by palliative surgery.
