How to Start Off a new Relationship ❓

Human beings are biologically wired for connection and intimate relationships are a great way to build strong emotional connections. A strong emotional connection gives security and a safe place for couples to grow and evolve.

Offering Some Tips to Sharpen Your Relationship Skills:

♦️Become aware of the relationship patterns in your family. Seek support to unlearn the unhealthy patterns of behaviours. Awareness of your needs and behavioural patterns can make a huge difference in the guiding your intimate relationships for a satisfied life.

🔹Healthy communication is about communicating your wishes or needs to your partner in a way that does not involve blaming, shaming or attacking them. Avoid using “you always, you never, you are wrong, you are crazy” statements. Take turns to listen to your partner’s perspective. Active listening instead of defending your point of view is a game changer.

🔹A good idea at the start of relationships is to increase your understanding of the attachment theory. Whether it’s choosing the right date, dealing with conflicts, attitude towards s*x or their view of togetherness or intimacy, people with different attachment styles perceive and respond differently to these. It is amazing to be able to interpret your relationships with clarity by learning which of the 3 main attachment styles; secure, anxious or avoidant you and your partner have.

♦️A couple with secure attachment style is attuned to their partner’s emotional and physical cues. These couples have their share of disagreements but they have an ability to soothe themselves, deescalate the situation and own up their share of responsibility in a fight easily.

When faced with stressful situations, our body copes by going into fight, flight or freeze response. Our sympathetic nervous system is activated, our heart rate and blood pressure increases, muscle constrict and digestion is altered.

Can you relate to a feeling of nausea when you are anxious❓❔

Host of stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline are secreted into our bloodstream. If we continue to remain stressed for prolonged periods of time, eventually our immunity to fight diseases is also decreased. Many times physicians cannot find the basis of our issues and conclude that what we are encountering is physiological manifestation of stress. They tell us that we need to lower the stress relax.

We, however do not know how to do that…the answer to do this is to understand 2 important things first, your stress response cycle; which includes checking in with yourself to find what are you feeling in your body, what triggered that response and find ways to express those feelings so that they do not get stored in the body as trauma response.

The second is to learn ways to regulate your nervous system. You can learn different tools to regulate your emotions on a daily basis. Practising these would help you to reduce the intensity and the frequency of disturbed emotions thereby reducing stress!!🌸🌸

Which strategies are you likely to use to calm/repair/regulate your nervous system?❓❔

Research shows Burn out involves 3 dimensions; depersonalization, mental exhaustion and decreased sense of personal achievement.

The good news is that one can deal with burn out effectively by following these steps🌸

1. Being aware of what feelings you are experiencing in your body ✨
2. To share those feelings and ask for support from people who care for you and who you care for ✨
3. To learn to express and process the difficult emotions and tell yourself that you can tolerate them ✨
4. To replace cultural conditionings that you have to be strong and deal with it all by yourself or that you are less of a man if you do not have it all sorted out ✨
5. . To take professional help in managing your triggers and healing from past traumas✨

According to recent research done by ICMR Indian council of Medical research, one in seven Indians suffer from mental health conditions

Men are rarely given the space or the sensitivity to talk about their mental health conditions. Our society has always portrayed man as a stronger gender - one who is physically strong, doesn’t cry and is emotionally stronger. The cultural expectation for them to be strong puts undue pressure on them to have it together at all times.🙇

This myth not only makes men under report and delay treatment but also pressurizes them to live up to the ideals of society.

If these mental health conditions are not addressed properly men are likely to turn to alcohol and other drugs as a way to numb the pain. According to the National Mental Health Survey 2015-16, the prevalence of alcohol use disorders in males was 9% as against 0.5% in females.📊

Men are also substantially at the risk of committing su***de. Research statistics tell us that the overall prevalence of mental morbidity was higher among males (13.9%) than among females (7.5%).

As a responsible society it is important to generate awareness, remove stigma and encourage men to seek proper treatment for the mental health concerns faced by them!🌸

The word “automatic”suggests that these thoughts are not the result of any reasoning or you do not initiate them! They are also very difficult to “turn off”📴

According to REBT philosophy, Unless we are trained to focus on these automatic thoughts, they can pass without getting barely noticed ✨

But with practice we can shift our attention to these thoughts, recognise them and check their validity. We can find out if they are realistic or lead us to practical benefits if we continue to believe in them✨

So next time catch your negative self talk and ask yourself; what am I thinking? Check your thoughts through the following parameters;

Is it true?
Is it logical?
Is it leading me to healthy outcomes?

Tell yourself “Just because I am thinking about it continuously does not mean it is true”🌸

Self-acceptance means accepting our attributes; both positive and negative ➕➖

Self acceptance promotes us to embrace our vulnerabilities and help build our self esteem.😊

When we accept ourselves fully, we are in tune with our strengths and can problem solve challenges of life effectively.✨

We creatively learn to figure out whether we need to increase our knowledge or skill sets instead of putting ourselves down when we are already struggling.

We get motivated to seek improvements not with the purpose of gaining appoval from others but because it feels more satisfying and helps us reach our goals✨

With self acceptance we can effectively replace our fears, depressive and feelings of anxiety with hope, action and courage. Our irrational belief that "I need to be perfect or life needs to be perfect to make me happy" can be easily challenged to a more rational approach to life which is "I cannot be perfect at everything I do or there is nothing as a perfect life" if we practise Self acceptance.

The journey of self love, thus, starts by being compassionate towards our own selves leading us to experience happiness and satisfaction in life.😊
If you are struggling with emotional disturbances like anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, grief or relationship dissatisfaction reach out for support! Dm us📩

Unconditional self acceptance is when we accept ourselves for attributes that we are good at and those that need improvement✨

This builds a foundation of compassion towards our own selves where we are able to acknowledge our errors and regard them as barriers if they impede our goals✨

When we accept ourselves unconditionally, we are more likely to take responsibility of our actions and hold ourselves accountable for our mistakes😊

As human beings we would make mistakes and experience healthy negative emotions of sadness, annoyance, regret or disappointment. With unconditional self acceptance we would be equipped to work on our negative emotions and have an improved mental well being!

If you are struggling with emotional disturbances like anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, grief or relationship dissatisfaction reach out for support!

Emotions are sometimes hard to deal with👤

Anxiety is a mental health disorder characterized by excessive feelings of worry or fear in day-to-day life🙇
Occasional anxiety is normal and even a good thing. It keeps us motivated for taking action. It is a survival mechanism human beings employ when faced with dangerous situations ✨

Many people worry about their health, education , money, and so on
and so forth 😟

Anxiety disorder is different from temporary worries it does not go away in a jiffy and if not treated can worsen over time
and the symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as relationships, school work, and job performance.✨

⏱️Here is a quick 2 mins anxiety test that will let you know that you need support from a mental health professional….

It's ok if the answer to most of the questions is never or sometimes but if your answer is often or very often then you need to address issues that trigger your anxiety. A trained therapist can lend support even if you do not want to take a medication route.

Comment down if you deal with these syptoms often or very often
