On a recent Air India flight from Delhi to Kochi, I heard an announcement I’d only ever seen in movies: “Is there a doctor on board?”

A fellow passenger was experiencing chest pain and palpitations. With the help of a well-equipped onboard medical kit, I was able to assist and stayed with him for the remainder of the flight until we landed safely.

Life moved on after landing, but I was pleasantly reminded of this moment last week through a thoughtful email and token of appreciation from India Limited.

It felt truly good to receive this gesture—a reminder that sometimes it’s about being at the right place, at the right moment.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women , yet diagnosis often takes years.

One of the biggest challenges? Pain dismissal.

👉“It’s just bad period pain.”
👉" You have such a small cyst, It surely can't hurt that much"

But the truth is:

Pain does not correlate with lesion size. Even small lesions can cause severe, life-altering pain, and sometimes big lesions may not hurt that much.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, not just “painful periods.”

It impacts fertility, quality of life, work productivity, and mental health.

🩺 As a doctor, I see it as my responsibility to advocate for my patients, listen without judgment, and present all available treatment options.

Endometriosis is real. The pain is real. And our advocacy must be just as real.
