Convatec India

Convatec India as we deliver pioneering trusted medical solutions to improve the lives we touch Squibb & Sons in the 1960s.

ConvaTec is a global medical technology business focused on serving people and care givers in the areas of advanced wound care, ostomy care, continence and critical care and infusion care. We are committed to helping people with deeply personal and challenging medical conditions lead the life they want – helping them improve care for them and giving them greater confidence, freedom and mobility. W

ith a history of industry-leading innovation, our story begins in the laboratory of a brilliant scientist, Dr. James Chen of E.R. His years of research exploring hundreds of formulations led to the invention of the first hydrocolloid medical adhesive for use in dental surgery. With this new technology in mind - our first product, Stomahesive® skin barrier, revolutionised ostomy care and established our reputation as an innovator of skin adhesives. Since then, our product portfolio grew to include a complete ostomy care line and advanced wound care line. The same spirit of inventiveness and collaboration continues amongst our ~9,000 employees serving care givers, patients and customers globally. Our Vision is to develop "pioneering trusted medical solutions to improve the lives we touch". Our Values lie at the heart of everything we do, shaping the way we work every day:

Bill Brown has been on quite a journey with his ostomy since 1964 – and not just because of all the travelling he does. Diagnosed with a serious case of Ulcerative Colitis at 22, Bill was told he would need immediate surgery or would die the next day, he woke up with an ileostomy.
As an early adopter to the SUR-FIT Moldable Technology Skin Barrier, Bill has come a long way since his first pouch, which was a rubber reusable, closed with a rubber band. “I have used an extremely diverse set of ‘appliances’ since my surgery in 1965, and never dreamed that anything would come along that would work as good for me as this product.”
Nowadays Bill enjoys a life full of travel, which is made so much easier with his Convatec Moldable Technology products. But he also makes sure he packs an “attitude of gratitude” often reminding himself “that my ostomy is not the villain in this story.”

For Lauren Henderson, the holiday season isn’t just a time to celebrate with family and friends, it’s a time to celebrate getting her stoma. Five years ago, on the 5th of December, she had the operation that changed her life. But despite plain-sailing ever since, she never fails to use this time of year to reflect on when things weren’t always as easy. Exhausted with IBD and coupled with being a new mum, she could barely walk down the street without being in agony. All she could do was dream about being healthy.

But thanks to her stoma, she received the gift of living a fuller life once again.

“If we enjoy the good days at work, the hot chocolates, and the cuddles from loved ones, we create our own happiness. For me, the holiday season is about being thankful for those things. Cherish the small things that make life so sparkly. My stoma has never stopped me experiencing those things. Actually, it brought them back to
me.”

Jo Hunt had her stoma surgery back in 1992 and hasn’t looked back since. Dealing with Chron’s disease at Christmas always left Jo with a bland taste in her mouth, as that’s the only food she could manage. But now, thanks to her surgery and a well-planned routine, she can look forward to so much more on her plate. Most importantly the holy grail of the Christmas dinner – the Brussel sprout. . . “When you experience your first Christmas with a stoma, try not to worry. If you don’t feel confident eating a particular food, you can always try it at another time. Just like you plan ahead when you shop for gifts and food, decorate the house and prepare for visitors, your stoma might require a little bit of thought. Most importantly, enjoy the occasion. Spend time with those who are important to you and enjoy that festive snooze on the sofa!.”

The answer is chewing gum. Chewing gum means you swallow a lot of air, which goes into your digestive tract and can cause gas. Cranberry and yogurt on the other hand are great for managing unpleasant stoma odors.

While researchers don’t fully understand the role of genetics in the development of diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association, statistics show that if you have a parent or sibling with diabetes, your odds of developing it yourself increase.
If diabetes runs in your family, it would be a smart thing to take care of other factors that can cause diabetes.

Colostomy, Ileostomy and Urostomy, what’s the real difference?
Well, the truth is when it comes to stoma bags themselves, not that much. The big difference they make to your life depends on what part of the body the stoma is connected to.

For colostomy think colon/large intestine, as this allows waste to bypass any diseased or damaged parts of it.

Ileostomy is similar except this time it’s about the ileum/small intestine.

And for urostomy think bladder, as this can re-direct urine away from any parts that are diseased or not working.

“I didn’t take the news well. I’d have much rather lived with the pain, than with a stoma. So, like all teenagers, I sought a second opinion. Not from a doctor, but from social media.” … “That’s really why I’m writing my story now, why I’ve set up my own Instagram page and why I’m keen to get involved in stoma advocacy. I needed reassurance, but I also wanted the kind of blunt honesty you only get from someone who’s been in your surgical slippers at a time when all your friends are Snapchatting their latest trainers.”
Keen to give other people his own age the reassurance he needed, Slaide Bowden tells us how he adjusted to an ostomy and navigated the ups and downs of school.
