As part of our Career Incubator program, The Second Innings, our fellows received a powerful gift: GRIT, a book authored by our advisor and mentor, Ferose VR.

This inspiring autobiography tells the story of Vishwas KS, a para-athlete whose journey of resilience and self-belief will ignite a spark within our Umoya Fellows, encouraging them to believe in their own strength, their own stories, and their potential to overcome.

Story of Vishwas helped our fellows to reflect on their own life journeys, to learn from Vishwas’s path and his challenges, and to set bold goals for themselves. 💪💫

Thank you, Ferose, for sharing your wisdom, your support, and a story that will deeply resonate and inspire transformation in our fellows.

‘A’, a National Gold Medalist in swimming
‘B’, an International Powerlifting Athlete
‘R’, an International Rowing Athlete

We have met many wonderful such athletes. What’s common among these incredible athletes is that they all are athletes with disabilities and that despite their remarkable achievements, they—like many others—struggle to find sustainable careers or livelihood, let alone opportunities in sports, the very field of their expertise.

Umoya Sports is really excited to launch ‘The Second Innings’ (TSI) – to address this critical gap for persons with disabilities (PwD).

The Second Innings (TSI) is a first-of-its-kind, fully paid, 15-month sports career incubator program for PwD in India.

The program aims to empower persons with disabilities by leveraging their experience and passion for sports, turning it into a force for transformation.

This is your chance to lead, inspire, and create lasting impact.

What happens when passion meets opportunity?

When champions rise beyond the playing field? 💪🏽

Where Do Athletes with disabilities Go After the Podium? 🤔

They train. They compete. They win. But what comes next?

Despite their dedication and achievements, many sportspersons with disabilities struggle to find sustainable careers—especially in the field they excel in.
Why is this the reality?

And how do we change it?

Let’s start the conversation. Drop your thoughts below.

As we look to the future, our vision remains steadfast: to expand our reach, nurture potential, and build a nation where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Together, let’s work toward a future that celebrates diversity and ensures that every voice is heard and valued.

Hi, I’m Sapna, athlete with visual impairment in B1 category, and this is my story of stepping into the world of football—a journey full of curiosity, challenges, growth and joy and even accolades, just like a Bollywood movie. 😁⚽

I was already playing blind cricket at the state level, but football was something new. I knew many children played Blind Football but at first, I couldn’t attend the sessions because there weren’t enough girls participating. But one day, I gathered the courage to approach my coach, Ayush sir who trains other children with Visual impairment in my school, Blind Relief Association and express my interest in football. That moment marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in my life.

Starting out wasn’t easy. I knew nothing about football, but my coach believed in me and encouraged me to try. I began attending sessions regularly, played along with other boys and quickly became the first one to show up. With every practice, I learned new skills, tried different roles on the field, and slowly started to feel more confident. My coach even started giving me additional responsibilities, which helped me grow as a leader.

Then came a moment of doubt when I was invited to play football at the national level. I was excited but scared—was I ready? I turned to my coach, who reassured me and told me to take the opportunity. And I did. I played every match, and we won the National Tournament.

Coming back, I was no longer the same person. Winning gave me confidence I’d never had before, and it inspired other girls to join football sessions. My journey showed me—and them—that with determination and an open mind, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.

Football has given me more than a sport to play; it’s given me the courage to dream bigger and lead others along the way. And now, looking at me more girls have started playing football and we are preparing to build our own Girls Blind Football team.

One of our most exciting projects of 2024!!

We conducted an Autism and Disability awareness program, PayAutention, across 11 blocks in Ayodhya District as part of the U.P. government’s “Poshan Bhi, Padhai Bhi” program.

These workshops focused on raising disability awareness and training grassroots educators in early intervention and inclusive practices for children with disabilities.

Over three months, we reached more than 1100 Anganwadi teachers, along with 33 supervisors and 11 CDPOs, across the following blocks:
Bikapur, Milkipur, Amaniganj, Rudauli, Maya Bazar, Mavai, Sohawal, Harigtanganj, Taarun, Pura Bazar, and Masaudha.

Each workshop aimed to empower educators to identify disabilities early and integrate play-based, inclusive education methods into their daily teaching. By equipping Anganwadi workers with these critical skills, we take a step closer to ensuring that every child—regardless of ability—has the opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow.

As part of this program we also developed one of a kind play based education toolkit, Khul Ja Sim Sim, for children with neurodiversities to build their socio emotional skills, developmental skills and get home based therapies

This initiative strengthens our commitment to building inclusive communities through grassroots education and awareness. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for children with disabilities. We thank our CSR partner, Powerlinks Transmission Pvt Ltd in this endeavor.

We will be sharing our learning and insights from this program soon. Stay Tuned
