Forging Carbon Conundrums: CHALYBES netØ Unraveling the Steel Industry's Role in Climate Change

As a prodigious contributor to carbon emissions, the steel industry assumes a pivotal role in propelling climate change. Consequently, our undertaking, CHALYBES netØ, endeavors to explore the instrumental role that each steelmaker can play in mitigating these emissions.

Our objective is to accentuate the obstacles encountered by the steel industry in reducing its carbon emissions and contributing to the crusade against climate change. We have amassed an extensive catalog of obstacles faced by the steel industry, as well as the pathways and initiatives being pursued by industry leaders.

While we have strived to present a comprehensive and all-encompassing overview of the significance of responsible decision-making in the steel industry's efforts to mitigate carbon emissions, it must be acknowledged that there may be certain lacunae in our knowledge, which is primarily based on information in the public domain disseminated through your website.

Therefore, we implore YOUR invaluable input to establish credible and unimpeachable content for a global audience to comprehend YOUR leadership in the steel decarbonization movement and chart their own plans.

In order to provide you with an overview of CHALYBES netØ, we have included three links below, each offering a distinct perspective. These previews have been carefully divided into three parts, with the optimistic hope that you will be able to grasp the vastness and thoroughness of the content presented.
Link 1: [Preview Part 1] https://lnkd.in/emPwut4w
Link 2: [Preview Part 2] https://lnkd.in/ebpNptcV
Link 3: [Preview Part 3] https://lnkd.in/eqY_EK9y

CHALYBES netØ is being printed in three parts to accommodate the content spread over 2500+ pages. Part 1 is dedicated to steelmakers, including start-ups, Part 2 encompasses companies offering innovative solutions to the steel sector, and Part 3 covers the initiatives of about 105 mostly non-profit organizations that support steel sector decarbonization. The tentative plan is to launch CHALYBES Net Ø in July-August 2023.

Our intention is to send CHALYBES netØ on a complimentary basis to about 3000+ decision-makers in steelmakers, green steel seekers, steel technology suppliers, miners, and companies like energy, hydrogen, logistics, CCSU, carbon conversion & green fuels providing novel solutions to the steel industry to mitigate emissions. The journal would subsequently be sold online through Amazon. The CHALYBES netØ effort would be followed by a symposium in India and a mega expo in Italy in 2023.

With an unwavering commitment to safeguarding the climate for future generations.

G20 Energy Transitions Working Group deliberations conclude successfully with shared views and consensus on priority areas

India signes MoU with Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Joint Business Council to further promote adoption of energy efficiency and sustainable practices in the region

Next ETWG Meeting scheduled early April in Gandhinagar.

The two-day deliberations of the first G20 Energy Transitions Working Group concluded successfully in Bengaluru today with shared views and consensus on priority areas.

Talking to media persons on the second day's proceedings Shri Alok Kumar, Secretary (Power) said that the member countries responded positively to the need for energy security and diversified supply chains. Participants, however, shared the view that the energy transition pathway should be different for each country depending on its energy base and potential. There emerged a clear understanding that fossil fuels would continue to be used more or less in most of the countries in the coming 15 to 20 years to increase the share of renewable energy, he said.

The Power Secretary said, it was appreciated that grid inter-connections like India is promoting under "One Sun, One World, One Grid" can lead to better utilisation of available energy sources amongst member countries without much storage capacity. Deliberations stressed the need to focus more on energy efficiency of industries, also to ensure that carbon dioxide decrease in a rapid manner.

As regards the session on Universal Access to Clean Energy, Shri Alok Kumar said, deliberations stressed the need to manage fuel prices and choice of technology to see that everyone on the planet has access to affordable energy. Member countries favoured a people-centric energy transition mechanism, he added.

Delegates complimented India for the mission-mode implementation of Soubhagya, Ujjwala and Ujjwal energy schemes that led to complete access to electricity, clean cooking and efficient lighting.

The Power Secretary informed that the next ETWG meeting is scheduled in the first week of April in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

On the sidelines, India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Joint Business Council (IMT-GT JBC), Malaysia to further promote the adoption of energy efficiency and sustainable practices in the region. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Power, signed the (MoU) with the IMT-GT JBC Malaysia coinciding with the India Energy Week celebrations.

As part of this strategic partnership, EESL will provide technical advisory, project management support, contracting and implementation support to execute select energy efficiency programmes from its portfolio with proven track records of successful implementation.

Delegates were taken to Infosys Green Buildings Campus in the city today. Tomorrow, a visit to the Pavagada solar plant will be arranged.

The three-day event got underway yesterday with the key-note address by Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R.K. Singh. Over 150 delegates including G20 countries and nine special invitee guest countries participated besides the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and many other international organisations.

Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency’s Rooftop Solar Projects for Hospitals and Medical Colleges

BHUBANESWAR: The State government has initiated steps for supplementing power supply to health service institutions through rooftop solar projects. Chairing a high-level meeting here on Monday Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra gave in principle approval to the proposal of the energy department.
Emphasising on green energy and reduction of carbon foot print, Mahapatra directed the department to make the system fool proof for ensuring quality power supply to the health service institutions. Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare Raj Kumar Sharma said generation of rooftop solar power will reduce the energy bill of the hospitals and medical colleges.
Principal Secretary Energy Nikunja Bihari Dhal said Odisha gets around 300 sunny days a year and the average solar radiation was quite conducive for roof-top solar projects. He said it would be an on-grid solar system and would be managed through remote monitoring system with real time energy data analytics. It will also help in tracking the energy load and consumption pattern of health institutions.
It was decided to start the project in all Government medical colleges and district headquarter hospitals in the first phase. The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) will be the nodal agency for implementation and oversight of the project in health institutions.
Additional Director OREDA Ashok Choudhury said for generation of 1 KW of solar power it requires around 100 sq feet of rooftop and yields around 4 units per day. As such, a rooftop of around 1000 sq feet would yield 40 units per day at a lesser cost than that of the current fossil-power tariff supplied through grid.
