Kind Attention: All the Employers/Licensees & Radiation Professionals of Nuclear Medicine Facilities
During unannounced regulatory inspection of Nuclear Medicine(NM) facility,it was found that Radioactivity was being handled by unqualified staff (i.e., other than qualified NM Technologist and NM Physician). In view of the above regulatory violation, the license for operation of a Nuclear Medicine facility was suspended for three months. Further, Radiological Safety Officer (RSO) approval of the NM technologist was withdrawn and he was directed to undergo re-assessment for RSO eligibility.
Further, it was noted that in spite of availability of qualified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, who was also the RSO of the facility, radioactivity was handled by unqualified personnel. In view of the above, all the Employer/Licensee of Nuclear Medicine facilities, RSO, NM Physician and NM technologist are directed to adhere the regulatory requirements while handling radiopharmaceuticals. In case, such violation is observed, enforcement action as deemed fit will be initiated against the Nuclear Medicine Facility/ Nuclear Medicine Radiation Professionals.
