Disheartened by the recent multiple incidents of schools unable to support children with Type 1 Diabetes. A child with type 1 diabetes have their share of struggles of need for insulin multiple times a day and glucose pricks multiple times a day- even if they step up to the manage their diabetes well, the system pulls them down - the school is an institution that they spend maximum time in, a happy childhood and memories develop with friends, eating together but if this is snatched due to lack of school support, lack of awareness of people and an understanding of the need of insulin administration - what hope the child will have! The school system needs a proper education on health and wellbeing, knowing basics of care in children with type 1 diabetes. There are resources to seek, support groups to reach out to, if only we ask, we seek and are open minded- there would be hope and we can build a team - the parents, the school system, the T1D community, the doctor and the child at center.
