How can Children contribute to generate awareness about Palliative Care? Will they have the time to do this within their so heavy study schedule? Will their parents encourage? All these questions were answered on April 10, 2022 in our maiden Students Engagement Program in Wisdom Public School in Vijayanagar, Mirza where Arujivn Healthcare Foundation and Wisdom Public School jointly conducted an Awareness program on "Palliative & Supportive Care for the Elderly and people with Serious Health-related Suffering"
The audience consisted of teachers, parents and students of class 6 onwards. The program was attended by people from the locality and invited representatives of NGOs like “Samarpan” and “Akanksha Axom” working in the field of education and public health. The representatives have already started showing an interest in collaborative work with Arujivn in doing awareness programs in this field. The program started with an introductory message about palliative & supportive care by Dr Anuradha Das Ghose, Principal of Wisdom Public School followed by an interactive experience sharing session moderated by Dr Sanghamitra Bora, Medical Director of Arujivn Healthcare Foundation.
A proposal to initiate a Student engagement program called “Young Arujivn” was put forward by Dr Sanghamitra Bora that would include young minds and their creativity to spread awareness about the concept of palliative & supportive care. Methods such as art & craft, poetry, photography, street drama & skid, awareness walks, societal group programs, etc will be used to help young people focus on this area, and experienced facilitators will help them realize creativity.
The program will be merged with the school calendar and students taking part shall be jointly certified by Wisdom Public School and Arujivn Healthcare Foundation. This will be a pilot project by joint collaboration of both the organizations, which shall be rolled out to other schools by the newly formed “Young Arujivn” student volunteers. 25 students and 6 teachers have been enrolled for the program to take off. A structured program will be created and will be merged with the school extra-curricular activities so that students are able to choose and devote time for the project without hampering their studies.
We are immensely thankful to Dr Anuradha Das Ghose, Principal of Wisdom Public School who is instrumental in initiating this project🙏
