Do You Know the Safety Norms for Assembly Points at Work?

When it comes to emergency preparedness, having a well-designed assembly point is not just a formality, it's a critical part of your safety plan.

Here are key international guidelines every HSE or facility manager should consider:

1- Distance from the Building

A minimum of 50 to 75 meters away from the facility, adjusted for site-specific risks (e.g., flammable materials or high-rise collapse zones).

2- Space Requirements

Allocate 1.5-2 m² per person to ensure a safe and organized gathering during evacuation.

Example for 100 people:

Minimum area = 100 × 1.5 = 150 m²

Comfortable area = 100 × 2 = 200 m²

3- Signage

Use ISO 7010 (E007) standard signs, clear, visible, and ideally reflective or illuminated.

4- Accessibility

Ensure the path is clear, safe, and accessible for all employees, including those with limited mobility.

5- Maintenance

Keep the area free from vehicles or equipment, and include it in regular evacuation drills.
