π Heart Failure vs. β€οΈ Heart Attack: Know the Difference! π₯
As a cardiologist, I want to shed light on the differences between heart failure and a heart attack, as they are often misunderstood.
π Heart Failure:
Heart failure is a chronic condition where the heart's pumping function is weakened or impaired. It can occur due to various causes, such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, or previous heart damage. Symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, fluid retention, and reduced exercise tolerance. It's a long-term condition that requires careful management and lifestyle changes.
β οΈ Heart Attack:
A heart attack is an acute event that occurs when a coronary artery becomes blocked, cutting off blood supply to a part of the heart muscle. This blockage is usually caused by a blood clot forming on a ruptured plaque in the artery. Symptoms of a heart attack include chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, and nausea. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
π‘ Awareness Matters:
Understanding the difference between heart failure and a heart attack empowers us to take proactive steps in managing our heart health. Regular check-ups, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and seeking medical help for any concerning symptoms are vital in preventing and managing these conditions.
