The *5th Batch Training Program* on *Grass Root Intervention and Community Training on Rehabilitation Module* was successfully concluded today at *Government Medical College Handwara (GMC Handwara).*

Over the course of three days, participants were equipped with essential knowledge and practical skills focusing on early identification, intervention strategies, community engagement, and rehabilitation approaches to effectively address substance use disorders at the grassroots level. The program marks another significant step toward strengthening community-based efforts under the vision of a Drug-Free India.

Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan*

The second day of the 5th Batch Training Program was successfully conducted by Government Medical College Handwara (GMC Handwara) with enthusiastic participation and active engagement from all trainees.

A special highlight of the day was the surprise visit of the Assistant Commissioner Development Kupwara, who reviewed the ongoing training sessions and appreciated the efforts being made at the grassroots level to combat substance abuse. The visit was accompanied by the Medical Superintendent (MS), Associated Hospital (AH), GMC Handwara, who also interacted with the participants and encouraged continued dedication toward community rehabilitation initiatives.

Today, on 16th February 2026, the 5th Batch Training Program on Grass Root Intervention and Community Training on Rehabilitation Module under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was successfully conducted by Government Medical College Handwara (GMC Handwara).
The training focused on strengthening community-level strategies, early identification of substance use disorders, rehabilitation approaches, and the crucial role of grassroots workers in building a drug-free society. Participants actively engaged in discussions, practical sessions, and case-based learning aimed at enhancing their capacity to implement effective intervention and rehabilitation measures at the community level.

Today on *11th February 2026, the second day* of the 4th batch of training on *Grassroot Intervention and Community Training on the Rehabilitation Module under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, J&K,* concluded successfully at GMC Handwara.

The sessions were conducted by the day’s resource persons *Dr. Owais Ahmad, Medical Officer, Dr. Nigha, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, and Mr. Pir Nauman, Counsellor, ATF.*

*The Department of Psychiatry, GMC Handwara* successfully concluded the *three-day training programme (third batch)* today, aimed at Teachers and Assistant Professors of the Education and Higher Education Department, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

*Day 1 (20th January 2026):*

The programme commenced with an orientation session focusing on the concept of grass-root level interventions and the importance of community-based approaches in addressing substance use disorders. Resource persons highlighted the magnitude of substance abuse, early warning signs, preventive strategies, and the crucial role of educators in identification, awareness generation, and referral. The sessions laid a strong foundation by emphasizing collaboration between educational institutions and community stakeholders.

*Day 2:*
The second day was marked by highly interactive sessions, featuring active question-and-answer discussions. Participants openly shared their field experiences, challenges faced in educational settings, and sought practical guidance on handling substance-related issues among students and communities. The discussions enhanced clarity on intervention models, counseling approaches, and effective communication strategies, making the sessions participatory and engaging.
