'World Kidney Day 2022' is observed second Thursday of March. This year it falls on 10th March and the theme is 'Kidney Health for All '.
It calls on all of us to work to bridge the knowledge gaps at multiple levels to create awareness about the kidney diseases and to provide better kidney care.
1 out of 10 adult people worldwide is having Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and it is projected to be 5th leading cause of death by 2040, now it ranks 16th .
It is frightening to know that the median age of the CKD patients is shifting towards younger age group for various reasons.
The work needs to be done at all levels throughoutthe community.
• General public: create awareness about the importance of prevention and early recognition of kidney disease in general public including school and college students.
• Patients and Caregivers : Extend education about living with kidney disease including practical advice on diet and lifestyle.Being compassionate
• Health Care Providers: Encourage and support primary care physicians for early recognition and management of patients with CKD and educate the other health care workers about CKD.
• Scientists : Involving them in finding more effective ways in early identification, prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.
• Health Policy Experts: Taking initiative in creating the programs for comprehensive and integrated services, which are essential in improving the early detection and tracking of kidney care at country level.
• Politicians and Government: Inform and make them aware about the impact of kidney disease and it's burden on healthcare budget and encourage them to adopt the policies to tackle the global burden .
Increased understanding of the kidney diseases and the simple ways of identifying and preventing potential health issues, can help combat high morbidity and mortality rates.
