Success story: Innovative approach of DTMS for OCD
In today’s post we are to discuss about how EEG based RTMS treatment has helped a patient with severe OCD. I am Dr. Lalitha, currently working at Asha Neuromodulation Clinics (ANC), Gachibowli, Hyderabad and I am excited to share my learning experience. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves distressing intrusive thoughts followed by compulsive actions. People with OCD often feel forced to repeat certain behaviors to prevent imagined catastrophes. They’re often mislabeled as ‘neat freaks,’ but OCD goes far beyond cleanliness. It’s a constant mental battle. At ANC, we’re committed to helping individuals manage these intrusive thoughts through Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS). A 33-year-old woman recently visited our Gachibowli clinic with severe OCD, marked by contamination fears and aversion to body fluids. Her symptoms worsened during her menstrual cycle, and previous treatments hadn’t helped. Hearing about Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (DTMS), she came to us as a last hope for relief. DTMS is a non-invasive technique that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate neuronal activity in specific target areas of the brain. The patient was medically being treated by Dr. M.S. Reddy and was receiving DTMS treatment with H7 coil of BrainsWay machine under the guidance of Dr. Aswin. However, the improvement was only partial. With a “never give up” policy, Dr. Aswin has then decide to do an EEG for a better understanding of the patient’s brain activity. It is my pleasure that I could assist him during the EEG analysis. Based on the EEG, Dr. Aswin customized an RTMS protocol best suited for the patient. The results were remarkable - she felt like herself again after a long time and described it as freedom from a thought prison. Stories like these show the life-changing potential of RTMS. If you're struggling with OCD and still holding onto hope, don’t hesitate to visit ANC, Gachibowli. Our team is committed to giving you the best care possible.
