Asian Spine Hospital

Asian Spine Hospital Asian Spine Hospital, a unit of the Asian Institute of Spine Endoscopy is India's first stand-alone Centre of Excellence for Full Endoscopic Spine Surgery.

Asian Spine delivers comprehensive and integrated spine care. Our USP:

We are the First dedicated Full Endoscopic Spine Centre in India. Our experts have experience with more than 2000 cases in endoscopic spine surgeries. Our approach to endoscopic spine surgeries helps patients return to their daily work early and live healthy life.

- First dedicated Endoscopic Spine Centre in India.
- Experience in more than 2000+ cases of endoscopic spine surgeries.
- First to start Laser Endoscopic Spine surgeries in twin Telugu States.
- Affiliations with various International Organisations.
- The team has teaching expertise with international fellows all over the world.
- Conducted the first World Congress on Endoscopic Spine Surgery, 2019 in Hyderabad, India. How are we different from Conventional Spine Centres? When a patient comes to the hospital with pain, he/she is assessed and a hypothesis is generated to know the cause of the pain. Clinical and radiological correlation is done and treatment is started in the form of:

- Pain assessment and counselling.
- Lifestyle changes.
- Pain management.
- Physiotherapy and Yoga therapy. If patients are benefited from the above, then they are followed up closely with regular consultations with the team. If there is no improvement, surgery is indicated and Endoscopic/Least invasive surgery is done. The biggest advantage of this surgery is, that the patient is discharged on the same day or the next morning, as it is the least invasive surgery. From assessment to the procedure happens in less than a day, making it beneficial and convenient for the patient and the family. With this treatment approach, the patient can resume work and return to his/her daily activities early.

Confused About Your DEXA Report? Let’s Decode It!

T-score? Z-score? These numbers may look complicated, but understanding them is key to knowing your bone health.

πŸ“Š What Does a DEXA Report Show?

A DEXA scan gives you two important values:

πŸ”Ή T-score – Compares your bone density to a healthy young adult
πŸ‘‰ This is the main number used to diagnose bone conditions

πŸ”Ή Z-score – Compares your bone density to people of your same age and gender
πŸ‘‰ Helps identify if your bone density is unusually low for your age

⚠️ What Do the Numbers Mean?

βœ” Above -1.0 β†’ Normal bone density
⚠️ Between -1.0 and -2.5 β†’ Osteopenia (low bone density)
🚨 -2.5 or below β†’ Osteoporosis

πŸ’‘ Example: A T-score of -3.0 confirms osteoporosis.

πŸ’‘ Key Takeaway

πŸ‘‰ Focus mainly on your T-score for diagnosis
πŸ‘‰ Z-score gives additional context based on your age

Early detection helps prevent fractures and protect your spine health.

Most people think digestion problems come only from the stomach.
But did you know your spine and nervous system play a key role in digestion?

The spine protects nerves that control how your digestive system functions. When these nerves are irritated or compressed, it can sometimes affect gut health too.

Here are 5 signs your spine may be impacting your digestion:

1️⃣ Unexplained Bloating

If you frequently feel bloated without a clear food-related reason, nerve irritation in the spine could be affecting digestion.

2️⃣ Chronic Constipation

Nerves in the lower spine help regulate bowel movements. Compression may slow this process.

3️⃣ Abdominal Discomfort with Back Pain

Experiencing both together? It may not be a coincidence that your spine and gut could be connected.

4️⃣ Posture-Related Digestive Issues

Slouching or prolonged sitting can compress abdominal organs and affect digestion.

5️⃣ Radiating Pain with Digestive Changes

If back pain is associated with unusual gut symptoms, it needs proper evaluation.

πŸ’‘ Important to Know
Not all digestive issues are spine-related, but when symptoms overlap, it’s important to look at the bigger picture.

βœ” Maintain good posture
βœ” Stay active
βœ” Avoid prolonged sitting
βœ” Seek medical advice if symptoms persist

At Asian Spine Hospital, we focus on holistic spine care, understanding how your spine affects overall health, including digestion.

🦴 When Should You Get a Bone Density Test (DEXA)?

Wondering when to check your bone health? A DEXA scan helps detect early bone loss and prevent fractures.

πŸ“Œ When to Get Your First DEXA Scan

βœ” Women: By age 65
βœ” Men: By age 70

πŸ‘‰ You may need it earlier if you have risk factors like:
β€’ Post-menopause
β€’ Previous fracture after age 50
β€’ Long-term steroid use
β€’ Family history of Osteoporosis

πŸ’‘ Men over 50 with risk factors should also consider early testing.

πŸ” How Often Should You Repeat It?

β€’ Usually once every 2 years
β€’ If your first scan is normal β†’ may repeat in 3–5 years
β€’ If you have osteopenia or osteoporosis β†’ regular follow-up every ~2 years helps track progress

πŸ’‘ Why It Matters

Bone loss is often silent. Early screening helps:
βœ” Detect weak bones early
βœ” Prevent fractures
βœ” Protect long-term spine health

At Asian Spine Hospital, we emphasize timely screening and preventive care for better bone and spine health.

Back or neck pain is often ignored as a β€œmuscle pull.”
But sometimes, it could be a spine condition that needs attention.

Here are 5 spine problems people commonly mistake for simple muscle pain:

1️⃣ Herniated Disc (Slipped Disc)

Feels like a strain at first, but may cause:
⚠ Pain radiating to arm or leg
⚠ Numbness or tingling
⚠ Pain worsening with movement

2️⃣ Sciatica

Often confused with hip or muscle pain.
⚠ Sharp, shooting pain from back to leg
⚠ Burning or electric sensation
⚠ Difficulty sitting or walking

3️⃣ Spinal Stenosis

May feel like simple fatigue or stiffness.
⚠ Pain while walking or standing
⚠ Relief when bending forward
⚠ Heaviness in legs

4️⃣ Spondylolisthesis

A slipped vertebra that may mimic muscle pain.
⚠ Lower back pain with movement
⚠ Instability in the spine
⚠ Tightness in hamstrings

5️⃣ Spine Infection (Rare but Serious)

Can be mistaken for persistent muscle pain.
⚠ Pain with fever
⚠ Night pain
⚠ Fatigue or weight loss

πŸ’‘ Important to Know:
Not all pain is just a muscle issue. If your pain:

β€’ Lasts more than 2–3 weeks
β€’ Keeps coming back
β€’ Spreads to arms or legs
β€’ Is associated with numbness or weakness

πŸ‘‰ It’s time to get it checked.

At Asian Spine Hospital, we focus on accurate diagnosis and advanced spine care to help you recover safely and effectively.

πŸ’Š Can Your Daily Medications Weaken Your Bones?

Many people don’t realise that some commonly used medications can contribute to bone loss over time.

⚠ Medications that may affect bone health include:

β€’ Corticosteroids (like prednisone) – Long-term use can reduce bone formation and increase the risk of osteoporosis.
β€’ High-dose thyroid medications – Excess thyroid hormone may gradually reduce bone density.
β€’ Anti-seizure medications – Some can interfere with bone metabolism.
β€’ Hormone-related cancer treatments – Certain therapies for breast or prostate cancer may weaken bones.
β€’ Long-term heartburn medications (PPIs) – Prolonged use has been linked to a higher fracture risk.

This doesn’t mean you should stop your medicines, but it’s important to monitor your bone health if you are taking these medications for long periods.

At Asian Spine Hospital, we encourage patients to discuss their medications with a specialist and take preventive steps to protect bone strength and spine health.

βœ” Balanced diet
βœ” Adequate calcium and Vitamin D
βœ” Regular exercise
βœ” Periodic bone health checks

Your medications help treat one condition, but your bone health should also be protected.
