Breaking the barriers to blood donation
14th of June, World Blood Donors Day
A day to give up all the misconceptions about blood donation and come forward to do this noble deed and to thank all the voluntary blood donors.
As an Oncologist, I've seen patients' relatives struggling to arrange for blood and blood products for their loved ones during cancer treatment. This is because many blood banks are short of their requirement.
Let us all leave the myths behind and get motivated to donate blood. Blood cannot be manufactured, it can only come from people with kind hearts.
Blood donation is safe. Spare just 15 minutes of your time to save a life.
A tribute to all the fighters out there battling brain tumours
Acknowledging the indomitable will of brain tumour patients and their families on this World Brain Tumours Day.
Neuro Oncology is one of my favourite areas in Oncology. I had a chance to work for nearly 3 months in this department during my 3 year medical oncology training in Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Every day I used to be amazed by the strength of brain tumor patients who used to go on with their treatment protocols despite the odds, most of them were quite young. The disease changed everything for them and their families and yet they continued to fight.
Every brain tumour patient needs emotional support from friends and family in addition to their treatment. This helps them deal with their disease and recover faster from the debilitating effects of the disease and it's treatment. Let us all stand as strong pillars of support for brain tumour patients.
