After delivery, many elders advise new moms to put cotton in their ears, avoid bathing for days, reduce AC/fan, or wear scarves and sweaters—even in warm weather. But how much of this is actually needed?
Let’s look at the science behind these beliefs.
🔹 Cotton buds in ears:
Placing cotton inside the ear can block earwax and increase the risk of infection. So it’s not recommended.
🔹 Scarves & sweaters:
This depends purely on the climate and comfort of the mother. If it’s cold, it may help. But in hot weather, bundling up can cause more discomfort and sweating.
🔹 Avoiding bath for 10 days:
Skipping bath for several days not only causes discomfort but can also increase the chance of infections. Daily bathing is safe and helpful for recovery.
✨ To recover faster after delivery, focus on:
1️⃣ Nutritious, healthy food
2️⃣ Adequate fluid intake
3️⃣ Daily bathing
4️⃣ Proper wound care
5️⃣ Resting whenever the baby sleeps
Postpartum recovery doesn’t need restrictions based on myths — it needs comfort, hygiene, nourishment, and rest.
