A rare and challenging case successfully managed at Dr. Rao’s ENT Hospital.
This baby was diagnosed with Incomplete Partition Type III (IP3) deformity, a rare inner ear abnormality where there is a high risk of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak during surgery. These cases are extremely complex because the inner ear has an abnormal connection with the brain fluid, making cochlear implant surgery highly delicate.
Despite the risk, I successfully performed bilateral cochlear implant surgery in both ears, carefully managing the CSF leak and ensuring proper electrode placement. Performing bilateral implantation in an IP3 deformity is exceptionally rare and requires advanced surgical expertise and meticulous planning.
This life-changing procedure will now give the child the opportunity to hear, develop speech, and experience sound for the first time
