A Bite or Scratch Can Cost a Life – Know What NOT to Do!

After an animal exposure, improper first aid can be dangerous. Rabies virus enters through broken skin and quickly travels via peripheral nerves to the brain. To reduce the risk, do not delay wound washing, do not suture the wound, do not cover it with dressings or bandages, do not apply turmeric or any home remedy to the wound, and never delay Rabies vaccination (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis).

Simply washing a bite wound with water is not enough to prevent Rabies. Scientifically, Rabies virus can quickly invade through the peripheral nervous system if not treated appropriately. The first critical step is thorough washing of the wound with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes, which helps reduce the viral load, and immediately contact your doctor for necessary vaccinations.
