This is called “kaho” in Hausa meaning “cupping” an art of removing poisonous blood from the body. Cupping has been popular in many cultures, including Ancient Egypt, Chinese and Arabia. Its also common procedure amongst various African tribes, in Kenya, Zimbabwe and Uganda it is called Okoromeka, Nubisa’an in Namibia, and Ikilumiko in Tanzania. In North Africa and in the Horn of Africa, as well as various other parts of West Africa like Gambia it is known as Hijama.
