CONJUNCTIVITIS

Conjunctivitis is the infection of conjunctiva, which is a thin layer on the eye surface, which protects the eye from environment. Conjunctivitis is usually caused by virus. It is seen as epidemic usually at the onset of monsoon.
It spreads by contact. I’ll explain with a scenario. A person with conjunctivitis touches his eyes. Then he touches an object say door k**b, thus transfers the virus to doork**b. If you touch the k**b and then touch your eyes, the virus is carried to your eyes.
How To Prevent Conjunctivitis:
It is similar to covid protocol:
1. Do not touch your eyes. For whatever reason, don’t touch your eyes. This is the main preventive trick.
2. Avoid crowded areas.
3. Avoid sharing your personal items with others (e.g. towels, wash clothes, make up, eye drops etc.)
4. Maintain social distancing.
5. Do not touch any objects. Use hand sanitizer if needed.
6. Frequent washing of hands with soap water.

Can we prevent it by drugs?
There are no drugs to prevent conjunctivitis. You can’t prevent it by using eye drops.

What if I get the infection?
1. Nothing to worry. It will subside within few days, without causing any complications to the eye.
2. Avoid spreading to others: Isolate yourself, avoid sharing your personal items, and avoid swimming.
3. Consult an eye specialist for advice.
