Root canal

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage inside a tooth. It helps save the natural tooth instead of removing it.

What happens in a root canal?

1. Numbing: The dentist gives local anesthesia to make the area fully numb.

2. Opening the tooth: A small opening is made on top of the tooth.

3. Cleaning: The infected or dead pulp (nerve and blood supply) inside the canals is removed.

4. Shaping & disinfecting: The canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to remove bacteria.

5. Filling: The cleaned canals are filled with a safe material called gutta-percha.

6. Sealing: The opening is sealed with a filling.

7. Crown placement: Usually a crown is placed later to protect the tooth.
