TIPS FOR CHOOSING A TOOTHBRUSH:

With so many shapes, sizes and styles of toothbrushes on the market, deciding which kind to buy can be confusing.

Here's what you should look for:
Soft-bristles – most dental professionals agree that a soft-bristled brush is best for removing plaque and debris from your teeth and along the gum line.

Comfort is key – pick whatever shape and size is most comfortable for you. The best toothbrush is one that fits your mouth and allows you to reach all teeth easily.

Powered toothbrushes versus regular brushes – powered toothbrushes are fun and may remove more plaque than regular toothbrushes. Regular toothbrushes work fine, but powered toothbrushes make brushing easier.

CAN KIDS USE MOUTHWASH?

Young children can be at risk for swallowing their mouthwashes instead of spitting them out, so the ADA warns parents against letting kids age six and younger use mouthwashes with fluoride. However, fluoride mouthwashes can help fight cavities, so it remains a beneficial product for most older kids and adults.

If you're worried that your child will swallow the mouthwash the first time he uses it, let him practice swishing with water. Once he gets used to keeping the liquid in his mouth without swallowing it, you can switch to the real thing. To make sure he's swishing and holding it in his mouth for the correct period of time, it's helpful to supervise his oral care routine or, better yet, brush, floss and rinse alongside him so he can copy your good habits.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT TOOTHPASTE FOR YOU:

It can be daunting, so here are some tips:

Children’s toothpaste – when buying toothpaste for your child, look for one that contains fluoride and has an appealing taste.

Adult toothpaste – when deciding which toothpaste to buy for yourself, or another adult, look at the benefits. For example, if you are looking to whiten teeth, whitening toothpaste could be a great option, or of you have sensitivity teeth, then toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth is a good idea.

Why Use Alcohol Free Mouthwash?
Most marketed mouthrinses contain an alcohol – specifically ethanol – which can cause an initial burning sensation, unpleasant taste and bouts of dryness in the mouth. If you suffer from burning mouth syndrome or other oral irritations, you may want to select an alcohol free mouthwash to keep from aggravating your condition, which can occur with the use of an alcohol-containing mouthwash.

Beyond these conditions, studies by BioMed Research International suggest alcohol free mouthwashes have a better effect on the gloss, color, hardness and wear of tooth composite restorations compared to mouthwashes that contain alcohol.

Reasons why you should be brushing your teeth twice a day:

1.Maintaining a fresh breath
2.Removes teeth stains
3.Prevents gum disease: You are at risk of plaque build-up on the teeth when you don’t brush often.

Does your tongue feel like it has just been scalded by hot coffee?

Conditions that damage small nerves, such as diabetes, can cause mouth pain. So can mouth infections, particularly with fungus (yeast). There also is a condition called burning mouth syndrome (BMS) that produces a burning — sometimes scalding — sensation on the lips and tongue and throughout the mouth.
