Many people wonder: Is vaginal progesterone good enough — or do I have to take injections in IVF? 🤔
Here’s what the evidence tells us:
🔹Vaginal progesterone is widely used and often just as effective as injections for luteal phase support in IVF and FET cycles. They have similar clinical pregnancy and live birth rates between vaginal and intramuscular progesterone.
🔹 Why vaginal is so common:
• Local delivery increases progesterone right at the uterine lining
• Less pain, better comfort, easier use than injections
• Many clinics use it as their first-line approach worldwide.
🔹 When injections may help:
• If serum progesterone is persistently low despite vaginal support
• If absorption issues occur (especially in some patients or with certain routes)
In those cases, adding or switching to progesterone injections can raise blood levels efficiently and is a valid option in personalised care. But if you’re still scared of injections or find them painful you can say “NO” because low progesterone doesn’t always mean failed IVF.
