Loneliness isn’t defined by the number of people in your life; instead, it’s the distance between what you want out of your relationships and what you’re getting.
So it’s absolutely possible to be lonely in a room full of people - even people you know - if you’re not getting the kind of interaction you want.

Take a critical eye to your relationships, individually and as a whole, to determine what may be missing, as well as which bonds could be strengthened.

If there are people on your list who you rarely see but you genuinely value and feel connected to, prioritize them more. And if there are people that don't add up value to your life, trim them out of your life.

Self-expression is vital to our wellbeing, but so is making sure our friendships and other relationships aren't getting affected. Taking emotional consent with people before unloading on them really requires emotional maturity and self-awareness.

You could start with a line like this:
• I want to share my thoughts and feelings about ___. Is it okay if I tell you about it?
• Something’s really bothering me, and I’d like to discuss it with you. Do you want to hear about it?
• I’d love some help with ___. Are you in a good place to hear about this now?
• I had a really difficult experience a while back. I need to vent my feelings to someone. can you play that role for me?
• There’s something I think you should know about me. When would be a good time to talk about this?

Asking for emotional consent means checking in before you emotionally dump and it will make sure your relationships stay balanced.

Emotional exhaustion is a well-studied psychological state and it can be reduced by recognizing the stressor and working on eliminating it to the best of our ability.

Here reacting to emotional exhaustion is often based on fear and insecurities, and it's not the most rational or appropriate way to act. Responding, on the other hand, is taking the situation in, and deciding the best course of action based on values such as reason, compassion, cooperation.

If the stressor is out of your control, then its important to accept that and focus on the present and do things to keep your mind engaged on other things.
