Over the years we have all been told what to do and what not to do.
These dos and don'ts may have been defined by our parents, society and even sometimes by the reactions that we have gotten from others when we open ourselves up.

But here are some tips from us as mental health professionals, it is normal to:
- Not be okay. It is a part of life's ups and downs.
- Ask for help. Asking for help is just as much part of our life. You can ask for help when you feel you have not been okay for a long time and it is interfering with your ability to function. You can even ask for support even if you feel okay but want to grow.
- Take a break. Make it as part of your daily functioning and take a breather especially when you are overwhelmed.
- Not knowing what is next. Life is a journey just like any adventure plans change so it is part of life to be uncertain. It is merely part of the process to figure out what is next.
- Saying "NO. It is not rude, it is not being pompous and it is not being arrogant. If there something that you don't like, you don't agree to or is making you feel uncomfortable saying "NO" is part of your choice.
We are right here for when you are not okay, want to take a break, want to explore what is next, want to learn to say "no" and when you are ready to ask for healp.

In the journey of processing these hardships we forget we grow with each and every obstacle we face.

Maybe that is why it is termed the fruit of our efforts.

Life always comes with its challenges and opportunities. We often tend to focus on the defeats and the obstacles rather than our triumphs and our successes.

This is not your fault, rather it is our evolutionary mechanism of focusing on these threats so we are better prepared in the future. Celebration are easy but standing back up is hard.

So as you read this post take a moment to remember your triumphs. Actively remind yourself that you are capable of overcoming your obstacles and standing back up like you did in the past.

You also don't have to stand back up on your own. We can provide you with the support you need.

Hustle culture. What does that mean?
"when a workplace environment places an intense focus on productivity, ambition, and success, with little regard for rest, self care, or any sense of work-life balance."

We often get lost in these stereotyped ideas of success and money. Keep in mind that these ideas stem from a corporate and capitalistic world where material success is given the highest regard.

As you go to work everyday don't forget to put yourself, your wants and needs first. Work and money are just means to an end. Rest, self-care and self-love are constants for true success.

Did you know?
Exposure to sunlight is something that helps us regulate our circadian rhythm through release of melatonin and our happy hormone serotonin.
On rainy days when the grey clouds block the sun's rays this natural system of ours is interrupted causing us to feel gloomy and stay in a low mood.
So what can we do to tackle this?
☕this can be the opportunity to have the traditional rainy food of chai and pakora. Or even pamper yourself further with cooking yourself a healthy hot meal.
❤️Low mood is also an indicator for self-care. Allow yourself to address your burnout or stress by taking it easy for a day (or a couple of days of self-care). This can look like a aromatic candles and a good book. maybe Netflix or gaming. You have the freedom to decide what your self-care looks like.
🏋Indoor exercising can also be a good option for boosting your mood and serotonin. This can even take a fun form of Zumba or dance. I also understand some of you may chose to dance in the rain, be sure to be careful and dry off well after because we do not want to fall sick.
⏱With the heavy rains and most offices and schools closing down for the next couple of days take the chance to reconnect with your family. Play games or chat or even take up a home project of reorganizing.

We all have heard this saying in our life.
Therapy very much like this saying takes time. People often think that they will see changes in the 1st session. But depending on you as a person and the situation it may take anywhere between 3- 5 sessions to see ay real change.
This change will initially be seen as changes in your own thinking before you get the strength to bring them into reality.
Just like all good things take time. All good things also means hard work.

In therapy we often we often speak about the "inner child". Lot of people might question why is that and what is the inner child.
As children we are constantly reminded to grow up faster than we can and sometimes even witness a lot of things that our young minds can't process. So the statement "you are very mature for your age" is not really the compliment we think it is.
This is when we have to acknowledge that the side of us that is carefree and can find the humor and joy even in the smallest of things is that very child that didn't get a chance to express themselves.
Allow that child to come out. Allow yourself that opportunity let that little child see the world again. At the end of the day isn't that the happiness we are all so desperately searching for.

How many of us have avoided our uncomfortable feelings or refused to acknowledge them. It may be time to understand that feelings can't be boxed they are technically our intuition..
Allow yourself to feel them. Question them. All you and your feelings need is acknowledgement.

Did you know?
When we put in time and effort into something it is because we value what we are doing and building. This part of the reason why we tend to attach sentimental value even to inanimate objects.
Sometimes this sentimental value is not just because we have built the object but the meaning we have attached to it.
If you find yourself unmotivated a good way of approaching it is starting with building something- it can be art or even starting on a long standing idea. It may just be the push you need into the motivated zone you want to be in.

Did you know?
Here comes another fun fact on memory!
When listening to a story, list or any other chunk of information there is a tendency to remember the first and last part of the information. This does not mean that the middle part is forgotten, rather the first and last half of the information is more easily recalled.
This is the primacy and recency effect:
Primacy: what is heard first is remembered better
Recency: what is heard most recently or last is remembered better.
Bonus Fact! This is why the sandwich technique is used when giving criticism- sandwiching a criticisms between 2 positive compliments. Thanks to the Primacy and recency effect we are more likely to best remember the compliments allowing the criticism to be more easily accepted.
