The rising threat of cervical cancer in India, the need for HPV vaccination and regular screening, and the efforts of doctors like me (Dr. Vasundara Cheepurupalli) in spreading awareness.

Cervical cancer (cervical cancer) has become a major health problem for women in India. The number of deaths among those affected by this cancer is also high. Especially in rural areas, women seek medical attention only after the disease has advanced significantly. Statistics show that over 13 out of every lakh women are affected by cervical cancer. More than half of them die. This is a concerning situation. Men can also be affected, but women are predominantly affected.

The vaccine to protect against cervical cancer is available. The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine can be administered to boys and girls from age nine up to women aged 45. However, many women in our country are unaware of the existence of this vaccine. Only 30% of children under 14 years in the country are vaccinated. Protecting them from cervical cancer is crucial for the future of the nation.

Educated people in urban areas are also not getting the HPV vaccine. This is a worrying matter. Poor families cannot afford this vaccine, which costs around Rs. 1400. The government should take responsibility for this. If the government negotiates with vaccine manufacturers, the vaccine can be obtained at less than half the price.

A plan should be formulated to make this vaccine mandatory and free for children. If the government considers this a burden, it can be undertaken in partnership with corporate organizations. Social worker and MP Sudha Murthy mentioned in Parliament that she, along with the Tamil Nadu government and cancer specialist Dr. Shanta, had provided free HPV vaccinations to girls in some areas. Taking them as role models, we appeal to the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to undertake a large-scale HPV vaccination program.

💪 49 Fibroids. 7 Hours. 36 Heroes. 1 Life Saved.
A woman came to us with her entire abdomen filled with 49 fibroids, That’s the number of fibroids we found in her stomach — filling her entire abdomen, pressing against her organs, stealing her comfort, her health, and almost… her hope.

She came to us tired, in pain, and carrying more than any person should.
What she needed was not just surgery — she needed a chance to keep her uterus, to hold on to the possibility of motherhood, to walk away whole.

It took 36 members of our team and 7 hours in the operation theatre — every minute a battle, every second a decision that mattered. We worked in sync — surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and support staff — all with one shared goal: save her life, save her uterus.
