Research Impact Report: 2018-2024

- Impactful research: In the last 7 years, the Institute has undertaken 5100 + sponsored research projects with cumulative funding of Rs. 2340 Cr. and about 3000 consultancy projects worth ~ Rs. 300 Cr

- 147 startups incubated at IIT Delhi by its Faculty and Alumni in last 7 years in the areas of Agritech, AL/ML/IoT, IT, Cybersecurity, automotive, bio-tech, healthcare/med-tech, EV/E-mobility, drones, space technology, sustainability and many more

➢ Several technologies transferred to industry, for example:

o Single-step, probe-free assay for Covid-19 - easily scalable, affordable (less than USD 5 per test)

o Advanced Ballistics and High-energy Defeat (ABHED) Body Armor for Indian Armed Forces

➢ Strong international research collaboration with leading universities:

o 271 international collaborative research projects funded by different agencies

o Launched joint seed funding program to intensify international research collaborations: 139 international collaborative projects funded

IIT Delhi incubated 147 startups in 7 years, focusing on life sciences, green tech, and other key areas. The institute also boasts significant research funding, numerous sponsored projects, and successful technology transfers, including COVID-19 testing and advanced body armor.

From classrooms to the Lok Sabha, IITians are making their mark everywhere!

We are proud to share that Shashank Mani Tripathi (B.Tech. Mechanical, Class of 1986) has become the second IIT Delhi alumnus to win a seat in the Lok Sabha, representing Deoria! 🎉

Our alumnus Jayant Sinha (B.Tech. Chemical, Class of 1985) previously won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh.

While many IITians make their mark in various fields, it is inspiring to see them excel in the political arena as well. IITians continue to contribute to nation-building in diverse ways.

Congratulations! Prof. Shrinivas R. Kulkarni, IITD Distinguished Alumni Awardee, M.S. (Physics) in 1978, wins prestigious Shaw Prize in astronomy for 2024

The Shaw Prize Foundation lauded Prof. Kulkarni's contributions to time-domain astronomy, which culminated in the conception, construction, and leadership of the Palomar Transient Factory and its successor, the Zwicky Transient Facility. In recognition of his groundbreaking discoveries in the field of astronomy, Prof. Shrinivas R. Kulkarni, an Indian-origin professor from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), has been awarded the prestigious Shaw Prize in Astronomy for 2024.

Prof. Kulkarni, the George Ellery Hale Professor of Astronomy and Planetary Science at Caltech's Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy, has been honoured for his pioneering work on millisecond pulsars, gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, and other variable or transient astronomical objects.

Prof. Kulkarni is one of the IIT Delhi Distinguished Alumni Awardee, his outstanding contributions in the field of Astronomer and Scientist.

Former IFC executive Ruchira Shukla and Karthik Chandrasekar of Sangam Ventures-Properties have launched Synapses at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi’s Research and Innovation Park - a new $125 million venture capital fund to invest in climate and health startups.
