When workplaces demand proof of pain, they strip dignity away from women at their most vulnerable.
This isn’t about special treatment, it’s about basic humanity.
If suspicion is the default, then fairness never stands a chance.
At The Hera Foundation, we are reimagining what workplaces can be:
places where women are not questioned, but supported.
Not sidelined, but strengthened.
Not forced to justify loss, but given the dignity to heal and return.
Because trust shouldn’t be conditional.
And fairness shouldn’t be negotiable.

If women in formal jobs, backed by HR policies and benefits, still struggle to return after childbirth…
imagine what it’s like for domestic workers, factory helpers, or street vendors who don’t even have maternity leave.
At The Hera Foundation, we are building childcare that adapts to every woman’s reality, because the chance to return to work should not be a privilege reserved for a few.

In India, mothers are 35% less likely to get an interview callback compared to equally qualified non-mothers.

Callback rates: 11% vs 18%.
That gap exists before skills are assessed, before performance is measured, before the interview even begins.

It shows how bias works:

Not against ability, but against the idea of motherhood.
Not after years of work, but at the very first step back in.

This is the motherhood penalty. It is measurable, documented, and systemic.
And it means that for millions of women, the barrier isn’t “getting the job.”
It’s even being given the chance to try.

At The Hera Foundation, we are building childcare and return-to-work systems that challenge this penalty, so mothers don’t lose out before they’ve even started.

Every hour of unpaid care is an invisible tax on women’s ambitions. When we calculate the gap, it’s not just about minutes, it’s about missed opportunities, stalled careers, and the exhaustion that compounds year after year. The imbalance of household and caregiving responsibilities is one of the strongest reasons why women step away from the workforce, even when they want to stay.
The truth is, this isn’t a question of choice or capability, it’s a systemic design flaw. A society that relies so heavily on women’s unpaid labor, yet fails to provide adequate childcare and support structures, is setting them up to lose time they cannot afford.
At Hera, we believe time should not be the reason women fall behind. Our work is centred on building systems of childcare and cultural support that give women back their hours, and with it, their rightful place in the workforce, leadership, and decision-making tables.
Because when women get their time back, everyone moves forward.

1 in 3 working women in India never return to work after childbirth. Not for lack of ambition, but because no one plans for her return.
That’s the reality Hera Foundation is changing. We’re building real solutions, like on-site childcare, peer support, and career planning, that ensure motherhood doesn’t pause, and shouldn’t reset your career.
Return to work shouldn’t feel like starting over. It should feel like coming back.
Save this and share so every woman knows she’s not alone, and that return can be real.

India’s urban childcare demand is rising every day.
But here’s the real crisis: supply is growing without safety.
A UNDP consultation (Dec 2024) revealed three systemic gaps:
No industry-aligned training programs for caregivers
No clearly defined job roles within childcare facilities
No robust accreditation pathways to ensure standards
This means even when more daycare centers open, quality and safety remain uncertain. Expansion without standards risks multiplying the problem.
For mothers, that uncertainty feels like a trap:
You want to return to work, but you can’t trust the very system meant to support you.
At The Hera Foundation, we are changing this.
We are working to create a certification framework for childcare, where every caretaker is:
✔️ Professionally trained in child safety, nutrition, and emotional care
✔️ Accredited through a standardized system
✔️ Supported with continuous learning to adapt to real family needs
Because childcare isn’t just about a space, it’s about trust, skill, and dignity.
And when childcare becomes professionalized, mothers don’t have to choose between ambition and safety.
Women don’t leave the workforce because they want to.
They leave when the system fails them. Hera is here to rebuild that system, certified, skilled, and future-ready.

Preparing for a baby usually means doctor visits and shopping lists.
But the real planning is about who pauses work, how money is managed, and what happens when childcare fails.
15 women shared what they wish they had done differently. Their answers show us what really matters after childbirth.

In one of our focus group discussions, women spoke about what success has meant to them, and what it has cost them.
The pressure to be agreeable, available, and accommodating isn’t just exhausting, it’s expected.
That expectation shouldn’t be the price of being seen.

If you’ve ever found yourself rehearsing how to ‘soften’ the news of your pregnancy at work, you’re not alone.

Whether it’s worrying about how your team will react, or feeling the need to prove you’re still reliable, many of us end up sharing too much just to feel safe.

You’re allowed to set boundaries.
You don’t need to overshare to seem committed.
You don’t have to answer questions that make you uncomfortable.

To build something real, we had to start with real conversations.

So we sat down, with parents, experienced caregivers, HR leaders, and everyday professionals, across companies and cities.

We heard about silent struggles, invisible gaps, and small moments of support that changed everything.

Each focus group helped us listen deeper and understand what’s truly missing when it comes to pregnancy, parenting, and work.

This wasn’t just research. It was reckoning, reflection, and reimagining.

Now, we’re building, with those voices at the centre, so that no one has to go through this alone or unprepared again.

A teacher. A mother. Denied the right to maternity leave, just because it was her third child. How many times must women prove they are worthy of support, no matter how many children they have? When will we start truly supporting women, without conditions?
