Biologicals are a class of medicines that are made in living cells. Well-known examples are vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.

A biosimilar is a molecule that is very similar to an approved biological. The FDA recently updated its 2015 guidelines on demonstrating biosimilarity to a reference biological, recommending that sponsors carefully consider a streamlined approach to clinical studies, based on the results of comparative analytical assessments, when designing their development pipeline. The CDSCO similarly updated its guidelines to align with the revised international guidelines. Below we summarize the updated requirements for CDSC0, FDA, EMA and WHO.
