A lot of us were taught how to function, perform, achieve, and “be fine.” Very few of us were taught what to do when we feel hurt, rejected, anxious, lonely, angry, or overwhelmed. So those feelings leak out sideways. Into relationships. Into work. Into the way we interpret silence, distance, or conflict. Emotional regulation isn’t about becoming cold or detached. It’s about creating enough inner steadiness that every emotion doesn’t become an emergency.
