To***co also raises the chances of heart attacks, strokes, chronic respiratory diseases like COPD, and fertility issues in both men and women.
Protect the Youth:

To***co companies often target young people with enticing marketing tactics. It's crucial to protect our youth from falling into the to***co trap.
Educate young individuals about the risks and consequences of to***co use, empowering them to make informed choices for a healthy future.

Support to Quit:

If you are a to***co user, seek help and support to quit. There are various resources available, such as helplines, counseling services, and support groups.
Talk to your healthcare provider, friends, and family about your decision to quit. Their support can make a significant difference in your journey.

Choose a Healthy Lifestyle:

Embrace a healthier lifestyle by engaging in physical activities, eating a balanced diet, and managing stress effectively.
Replace to***co habits with positive alternatives like exercise, hobbies, or meditation to reduce cravings and improve overall well-being.
Spread Awareness:

Celebrate Success:

On occasion of World sleep day a few tips for a healthy sleep.

Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

Create a relaxing bedtime routine. Take a warm bath, read a book, or listen to soothing music before bed to help your mind and body unwind.

Make your bedroom a sleep-friendly environment. Keep your bedroom cool, quiet, and dark to create a comfortable sleep environment. Consider using blackout curtains, earplugs, or a white noise machine if needed.

Avoid using electronics before bed. The blue light emitted by smartphones, tablets, and computers can disrupt your body's natural sleep-wake cycle. Avoid using these devices for at least an hour before bedtime.

Limit caffeine and alcohol intake. Caffeine can stay in your system for several hours and interfere with your sleep, while alcohol can disrupt your sleep cycle and cause restless sleep.

Exercise regularly, but not too close to bedtime. Exercise can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply, but avoid exercising within two hours of bedtime as it can be too stimulating.

Practice relaxation techniques. Deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help calm your mind and prepare your body for sleep.

Avoid large meals before bedtime. Eating a heavy meal too close to bedtime can interfere with your sleep. Try to eat your last meal at least 2-3 hours before bedtime.

Manage stress. Stress and anxiety can make it difficult to fall asleep. Try relaxation techniques, such as mindfulness or journaling, to reduce stress and calm your mind before bed.

If still problems persists contact a psychiatrist.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a mental health condition characterized by excessive and persistent worry or anxiety about everyday situations.

GAD affects lakhs of adults in the India and can occur at any age.

Symptoms of GAD may include excessive worry, restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, and sleep disturbances.

GAD can impact a person's ability to perform daily tasks and can lead to decreased quality of life.

GAD can be treated with therapy, medication, or a combination of both.

Psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can help individuals with GAD learn coping skills to manage their anxiety.

Medications such as antidepressants and benzodiazepines may be prescribed to help manage symptoms.

Lifestyle changes such as exercise, a healthy diet, and stress management techniques can also be helpful for individuals with GAD.

It's important to seek help from a mental health professional if you think you or someone you know may be experiencing symptoms of GAD.

With proper treatment and support, individuals with GAD can lead fulfilling and productive lives.

20/01/2023

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Examples include natural disasters, serious accidents, terrorist acts, war/combat, rape/sexual assault, historical trauma, intimate partner violence and bullying.

Symptoms of PTSD

Intrusion: Intrusive thoughts such as repeated, involuntary memories; distressing dreams; or flashbacks of the traumatic event. Flashbacks may be so vivid that people feel they are reliving the traumatic experience or seeing it before their eyes.

Avoidance: Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event may include avoiding people, places, activities, objects and situations that may trigger distressing memories. People may try to avoid remembering or thinking about the traumatic event. They may resist talking about what happened or how they feel about it.

Alterations in cognition and mood: Inability to remember important aspects of the traumatic event, negative thoughts and feelings leading to ongoing and distorted beliefs about oneself or others.

Alterations in arousal and reactivity: Arousal and reactive symptoms may include being irritable and having angry outbursts; behaving recklessly or in a self-destructive way; being overly watchful of one's surroundings in a suspecting way; being easily startled; or having problems concentrating or sleeping.

It is important to note that not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD, and not everyone who develops PTSD requires psychiatric treatment. For some people, symptoms of PTSD subside or disappear over time. Others get better with the help of their support system (family, friends or clergy).

But many people with PTSD need professional treatment to recover from psychological distress that can be intense and disabling. Treatment is possible with various methods including medicines, psychotherapy, social support. So stop the stigma and progress for a better mental health.

Weird, odd, eccentric, different and many other terms are associated with children suffering from autism, come lets take a closer look at it and help remove the stigma.

Autism is the central condition in the group of difficulties known as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). They are caused by abnormalities in the way the brain develops and works. They affect approximately 1 in 100 children and young people.

Children and young people with ASD have particular difficulties:

in communicating

being around people socially and

with their behaviour

They have a range of intellectual ability from having severe learning disabilities, to being more academically able and in mainstream education. About 10% of people with autism may also have some special skills and abilities like remembering calender dates, visual memory, fast calculation etc.

For a diagnosis of autism, there must be evidence of unusual development in the first 3 years of life.

Some higher functioning people on the autism spectrum who have intellectual ability in the average range and no delays in learning to talk.

The exact cause of ASD is still unknown, although research shows that a combination of genetic and environmental factors may account for changes in brain development. There is an increased risk of ASD and other developmental difficulties in the brothers and sisters of children with ASD.

There are no known cures for ASD, but children and families can be helped in many ways. Help includes:

being given information about the condition

managing behavioural difficulties
developing social communication and

emotional skills medication in some cases.

In case you come around any such child dont make fun of them they are just wired different. Together we can make a difference.

Do you sometimes have sudden attacks of anxiety and overwhelming fear that last for several minutes? Maybe your heart pounds, you sweat, and you feel like you canโ€™t breathe or think. Do these attacks occur at unpredictable times with no obvious trigger, causing you to worry about the possibility of having another one at any time?

If so, you may have a type of anxiety disorder called panic disorder. Left untreated, panic disorder can lower your quality of life because it may lead to other fears and mental health disorders, problems at work or school, and social isolation.

People with panic disorder may have:

Sudden and repeated panic attacks of overwhelming anxiety and fear
A feeling of being out of control, or a fear of death or impending doom during a panic attack
Physical symptoms during a panic attack, such as a pounding or racing heart, sweating, chills, trembling, breathing problems, weakness or dizziness, tingly or numb hands, chest pain, stomach pain, and nausea
An intense worry about when the next panic attack will happen
A fear or avoidance of places where panic attacks have occurred in the past.

Treatment and prevention
Psychotherapy
Medications
Relaxation Techniques
Positive family and work environment
Abstaining from substance use
Maintain a good sleep and eating cycle.

Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder that causes changes in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function. People with bipolar disorder experience intense emotional states that typically occur during distinct periods of days to weeks, called mood episodes. These mood episodes are categorized as manic/hypomanic (abnormally happy or irritable mood) or depressive (sad mood). People with bipolar disorder generally have periods of neutral mood as well. When treated, people with bipolar disorder can lead full and productive lives.

About 1% people are affected by bipolar somewhere along the life. If you have someone in family with bipolar the risk increases substantially.

People without bipolar disorder experience mood fluctuations as well. However, these mood changes typically last hours rather than days. Also, these changes are not usually accompanied by the extreme degree of behavior change or difficulty with daily routines and social interactions that people with bipolar disorder demonstrate during mood episodes.

Bipolar disorder can disrupt a personโ€™s relationships with loved ones and cause difficulty in working or going to school.

Treatment involves using drugs like mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, antidepressants and therapy.

If you know someone with bipolar or yourself suffer from it seek help to get better.

Borderline personality disorder is a mental health disorder that impacts the way you think and feel about yourself and others, causing problems functioning in everyday life. It includes self-image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behavior, and a pattern of unstable relationships.

With borderline personality disorder, you have an intense fear of abandonment or instability, and you may have difficulty tolerating being alone. Yet inappropriate anger, impulsiveness and frequent mood swings may push others away, even though you want to have loving and lasting relationships.

A migraine is a headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It's often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with your daily activities.

For some people, a warning symptom known as an aura occurs before or with the headache. An aura can include visual disturbances, such as flashes of light or blind spots, or other disturbances, such as tingling on one side of the face or in an arm or leg and difficulty speaking.

migraine usually lasts from 4 to 72 hours if untreated. How often migraines occur varies from person to person. Migraines might occur rarely or strike several times a month.

During a migraine, you might have:

Pain usually on one side of your head, but often on both sides
Pain that throbs or pulses
Sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch
Nausea and vomiting

An aura might occur before or during migraines. Auras are reversible symptoms of the nervous system. They're usually visual but can also include other disturbances. They can present as:

Visual phenomena, such as seeing various shapes, bright spots or flashes of light
Vision loss
Pins and needles sensations in an arm or leg
Weakness or numbness in the face or one side of the body
Difficulty speaking

After a migraine attack, you might feel drained, confused and washed out for up to a day. Some people report feeling elated. Sudden head movement might bring on the pain again briefly.

Migraines are often undiagnosed and untreated. If you regularly have signs and symptoms of migraine, keep a record of your attacks and how you treated them. Then make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your headaches. Even if you have a history of headaches, see your doctor if the pattern changes or your headaches suddenly feel different.

Prevention :

Relaxation techniques like Yoga, JPMR
Drink plenty fluids
Keep a headache diary
Exercise regularly
Avoid triggers
Maintain sleep cycle
Avoid excess caffeine
Take breaks during continuous screen hours

Treatment includes medication for acute attack and prophylaxis as well if it is too common.

Hi all, today i will be discussing about dementia, its symptoms and a few strategies to prevent it.
Dementia is not a specific disease but is rather a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interferes with doing everyday activities. Alzheimerโ€™s disease is the most common type of dementia.

Of those at least 65 years of age, there is an estimated 5.0 million adults with dementia in 2014 and projected to be nearly 14 million by 2060.

People with dementia have problems with:

Memory
Attention
Communication
Reasoning, judgment, and problem solving
Visual perception beyond typical age-related changes in vision

Signs that may point to dementia include:

Getting lost in a familiar neighborhood
Using unusual words to refer to familiar objects
Forgetting the name of a close family member or friend
Forgetting old memories
Not being able to complete tasks independently

A few tips to prevent dementia and improve cognitive reserve:

-Physical activity
-Cognitive exercises like playing sudoko, crosswords, arranging puzzles, engaging in social functions
-learning new languages
- Develop reading habits
-Sleeping on back or left side, avoid sleeping on right side or stomach to bed.
- Healthy diet
- Regular health checkups

Treatment of dementia depends on the underlying cause. Neurodegenerative dementias, like Alzheimerโ€™s disease, currently can be tried to contain at initial stages, though there are medications that can help protect the brain or manage symptoms such as anxiety or behavior changes. Research to develop more treatment options is ongoing. Hopefully we will soon be able to cure this progressive disorder and detect it quite early for faster management.

Mental Health Awareness week

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active.

A child with ADHD might:

1.daydream a lot
2.forget or lose things a lot
3.squirm or fidget
4.talk too much
5.make careless mistakes or take unnecessary risks
6.have a hard time resisting temptation
7.have trouble taking turns, keeps on running around like having a motor inside.
8.have difficulty getting along with others
To name a few.

There are three different types of ADHD
A. Predominantly Inattentive Presentation
B. Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation
C. Combined Presentation

Deciding if a child has ADHD is a process with several steps. There is no single test to diagnose ADHD, and many other problems, like anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and certain types of learning disabilities, can have similar symptoms.

ADHD can last into adulthood. Some adults have ADHD but have never been diagnosed. The symptoms can cause difficulty at work, at home, or with relationships. Symptoms may look different at older ages, for example, hyperactivity may appear as extreme restlessness. Symptoms can become more severe when the demands of adulthood increase and can cause severe distress and loss in productivity.

Mostly the symptoms of hyperactivity decrease with age but inattention persists.

In most cases, ADHD is best treated with a combination of behavior therapy and medication. For preschool-aged children (4-5 years of age) with ADHD, behavior therapy, particularly training for parents, is recommended as the first line of treatment before medication is tried. What works best can depend on the child and family.

If you see the above symptoms in someone in your family or have it yourself consult a psychiatrist/child psychiatrist. Together we can improve lives.

Mental health awareness week:

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common, chronic, and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over.

Estimated figures suggest every 1-2 in 100 suffer from OCD.

Obsessions are repeated thoughts, urges, or mental images that cause anxiety.

Common themes include:
1.Fear of germs or contamination
2.Unwanted forbidden or taboo thoughts involving blasphemous, religion, or harm
3.Aggressive thoughts towards others or self
4.Having things symmetrical or in a perfect order
5. Sexual thoughts about others and near ones.

Compulsions are repetitive behaviors that a person with OCD feels the urge to do in response to an obsessive thought. Common compulsions include:

1.Excessive cleaning and/or handwashing
2.Ordering and arranging things in a particular, precise way
3.Repeatedly checking on things, such as repeatedly checking to see if the door is locked or that the oven is off
4.Compulsive counting.
5. Sexual compulsions

Although most adults with OCD recognize that what they are doing doesnโ€™t make sense, some adults and most children may not realize that their behavior is out of the ordinary.

OCD is typically treated with medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two. The latter is preferred.

Concluding the post. OCD is a very common and disabling disorder which might seem controllable to an outsider but is very difficult to manage. Speak out, reach for help, we all just need to stop the stigma and seek treatment.

02/10/2021

On the route to World Mental health day. I would like to discuss in brief about a few disorders. Starting with gaming addiction which has become a pandemic and took many lives along.

Gaming addiction usually starts to develop during early teenage. Red flags include:

1.spending most or all available hours playing a video game
2.diminished job and/or educational productivity,
3.choosing to play video games rather than socialize and/or sleep,
4.lying or being secretive about video game use,
5.avoiding or no longer participating in other activities in order to spend more time playing video games.

The addiction may develop shortly by the time one comes to reality they are already in its grasp.

Children and young adults who reside in hostels or college campuses are at greater risk of developing problematic video game playing habits due to the flexible, unsupervised, and unstructured college environment, unrestricted access to high-speed broadband along with very cheap internet plans, and the multiple stressors associated with the transition to living away from home.

Many multiplayer games involve a component of in game purchases and many kids and adults have lost millions over a game and consequently even taken drastic steps.

Like any substance gaming addiction gives an artificial high. The games are strategically devised to hook one up with a sense of achievement and constant reinforcement.

These video games pose greater challenges and reward the player less frequently in the later stages. High duration playing sessions are therefore likely to interfere with real-life commitments and social life. The urge to play video games increases during periods of stress, depression, and/or social isolation. For other individuals, problematic video game playing behavior may manifest itself more irregularly, acting as a coping strategy in response to stressful life events.

Few tips:
1. Fix gaming time, total time shouldn't exceed 2 hours.
2. Take frequent breaks
3. Make it a habit to balance out the time spent on games with equal amount of social interaction.
4. Can plan for gaming fasts midweek.
5. Remember all in all its just a game and not more important than you or your family.

So reach out before its too late. If you know someone with gaming addiction or yourself are addicted help is all around you just need to look up from the mobile screen. ๐Ÿ˜‰
