Countdown to the International Day of Yoga: A Look at Its Remarkable Journey.
The call to action by Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated during his first speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014, marked the beginning of a global movement. Modi emphasized the holistic benefits of yoga, not only as a form of exercise but as a means to achieve harmony between mind and body and between humans and nature. His vision to declare an International Day of Yoga resonated worldwide, gathering support from 170 countries.
This is what he stated:
Yoga is our ancient, traditional, and invaluable gift. Yoga embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, and harmony between humans and nature. It offers a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is not merely an exercise but a means to achieve harmony with oneself, the world, and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating awareness, it can help us combat climate change. Let us work towards starting an 'International Day of Yoga'.
