4 Tips for Back Pain Relief 🤝

A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner portion of an intervertebral disc protrudes through its tough outer layer, potentially pressing on nearby nerves. This can cause pain, numbness, or weakness in the lower back and legs.

Many people with a herniated disc are unsure how to recover and often make mistakes along the way. Here are 4 tips to help you on your journey to recovery:

1. Tip 1: Instead of stretching your back and doing random exercises, focus on strengthening your spinal erectors and glutes to prevent your herniation from recurring.

2. Tip 2: Keep moving! Even if you’re in a lot of pain, find activities that feel comfortable and stay active despite the pain to increase the amount of oxygen getting delivered to your back and speed up the recovery.

3. Tip 3: Calm down your central nervous system. Optimize your sleep, nutrition, stress levels, activity levels, and mood—all the external factors that can make your spine more sensitive to irritation.

4. Tip 4: Hot and cold water exposure. If you’re dealing with a nasty flare-up, try getting in the shower, pointing the flow towards the painful area, and switching between hot and cold water every 30 seconds.
