What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic is a once-weekly injectable medication whose active ingredient is semaglutide — a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar, slow gastric emptying, curb appetite, and improve insulin secretion in response to meals.

Originally approved in the United States in 2017 for managing type-2 diabetes, Ozempic has gained global attention not just for glycaemic control but also for its effects on weight loss — though in India it is marketed primarily as a diabetes medicine.
