Putting Patients 1st - Every step of the way
The work we do to push the boundaries of advanced and personal care to our patients is a constant reminder of why did we started our career in healthcare.
As we collectively make decisions about where to put our energy, we consider the benefit to the individual patient, attendants and the community.
This is what putting Patients 1st means to us.
Patient centricity does features in Vision statement of organizations. For all of us, it should be more than that. It is a credo that should guide each one of us every day.
And like many belief systems, it is not enough to strive for it — it is most meaningful when in action. Like so many of us in healthcare, entered career in healthcare wanting to do our best.
Listening to the community to define the need
It is impossible to address a problem without fully understanding it, so it’s quintessential to listen directly from people.
While communicating with patients, their caregivers and our Clinicians, we should be able to identify what the real unmet need is and where we can bring meaningful progress.
There are key considerations when conceptualizing and designing a patient-centricity; the decisions seem simple but must factor cultural, regional and practical approaches.
We must consider what would be optimal for patients receiving the due attention, timely receiving medicine, timely being getting investigated, pharmacists to dispense medicines, nurses who may be administering it and Clinicians who make these treatment decisions.
Patient-centricity must factor in access. People in need can access and afford them. Payors like CGHS, RGHS, TPA, Ayushman Arogya Yojana are an integral stakeholder in our patient care program, as we engage them to better understand potential hurdles and what evidence they require to ensure affordable access.
