In 11th class, we were taken on a field visit to a Psychiatric Centre. We were sitting in the waiting room and there was a person next to me happily talking to himself, laughing, and sharing his “pan masala” to some imaginary friend. Most of my batchmates were scared but I was intrigued by his behavior and wanted to understand more of his mental functioning. I discussed his condition with that person’s treating psychiatrist - it was Schizophrenia. Back home that day, I studied thoroughly about “why” those hallucinations were caused. I learned about biological aspects of these disorders and felt they should be treated similar to any physical condition. My preconception about psychology being "reading people's minds" was broken and I felt intrigued to learn more. It seemed to be more vast & complex than perceived.

I completed school, bachelors, then masters - in Clinical Psychology which is the study of Abnormal Behaviour & Clinical Disorders. After being licensed, I returned to Jaipur, worked at SMS and then opened a clinic.

Throughout this, I've felt great satisfaction in helping solve people's crisis situations and making people smile. But sometimes it feels like each session and each patient takes a part of you away - your energy, your parameter to soothe and cope them up, your strength and grounding. Home environment is meant to balance this but it seldom does. Self-care is important. I get to understand what drains and what refreshes me, permits me to balance professional and personal life and helps me contribute without having extreme psychological impact on myself.

We are humans too & need to embrace our feelings openly. When we stay real to ourselves, we can be likewise with the patient/client.

Then the therapy becomes better and relationships become profound. The patterns and feelings we reinforce in patients then get entrenched in our own personality.

We know patients learn from us but we also subconsciously learn from them. I've experienced self-growth along with patients when I look back in time & fortunately, it’s still continuing!

We are in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic (as declared by WHO), which has resulted in a rise in anxiety and stress.

Reactions to the crisis can include feeling overwhelmed, fearful, sad, angry and helpless, according to experts. Some people may have difficulty sleeping or concentrating. Fear of contact with others, travelling on public transport or going into public spaces may increase, and some people will have physical symptoms, such as an increased heart rate or upset stomach.

Please connect with us for any stress related issues. As we are currently available for Virtual Counselling sessions.

WORRYING ABOUT EXAMS
Exam stress can affect anyone. You might be worried about doing enough revision, getting the grades you need or feel pressure from your school or family.

It can seem scary to talk about stress or anxiety. You might feel like nobody else is feeling this way. But bottling up stress and trying to deal with it on your own can often make the stress worse. So it can really help to talk.
