🧒 A limping child is not always “just a fall.”

A 5-year-old boy with knee swelling, pain, limping… and unexplained bruises 🩸

🚨 Two diagnoses you should NEVER forget:

🧬 Hemophilia
• Recurrent bruises
• Joint swelling (hemarthrosis)
• Pain, limping, reduced movement
• Often no obvious trauma

🚫 Non-Accidental Injury (NAI) / Child Abuse
• Bruises in different stages
• Unusual locations
• History doesn’t match the injury
• Delay in seeking care

⚠️ Missing either can be life-threatening — one needs factor replacement, the other needs child protection.

👨‍⚕️ Clinical pearl:
👉 Limp + bruises in a male child = think beyond simple injury or JIA
👉 Ask. Examine. Investigate. Protect.

As a Pediatric Rheumatologist, we often see children suffering from CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) — a condition that is very painful, commonly missed, often over investigated and over treated.

🔍 What is CRPS?
CRPS is a condition where a child develops intense, ongoing pain after a minor injury (fall, sprain, fracture) — pain that is far more than expected.

⚠️ Red-flag symptoms parents should not ignore:
😖 Severe, continuous pain
🔥 Burning / stabbing sensation
🎨 Skin color changes (red, pale, bluish)
❄️🌡️ Limb feels unusually cold or warm
💦 Swelling or excessive sweating
🚫 Stiffness & difficulty moving
👕 Pain even with light touch or clothing
